Young @ Art

The art program at Academy Prep of Tampa avails its students to creative outlets and opportunities to hone their unique talents. Art teacher Amanda Fleischbein always encourages her students to reach new, artistic heights and is a strong advocate of community art partnerships.

One of our 6th graders, Taylor Spencer, was recently recognized for her artwork by the Tampa Museum of Art’s “Young @ Art” exhibit. This exhibit featured young artists in elementary and middle school throughout the Tampa Bay area, and Taylor was one of just 100 selected students among hundreds of entrants.

Taylor’s piece is a self-portrait entitled “Bad Hair Day.” Her artwork features “zentangles”- an abstract drawing technique that uses repetitive patterns, outlining a picture Taylor took of herself.

Ms. Fleischbein is incredibly proud of Taylor for her dedication to this project. “As a first year student, it can be challenging to find your groove. Her involvement in the art department has provided her with a place to be comfortable and successful.” Taylor says that art is one of the best ways to express your emotions and shared that “Young @ Art” was a rewarding experience.

Taylor’s selection was displayed at the Tampa Museum of Art throughout January. She attended a reception where the museum celebrated the young artists, accompanied by her teacher and entire family.

This partnership with the museum is a great way for students to share their talents with the community, and we look forward to similar opportunities in the future. Congratulations, Taylor!

We are celebrating more exciting news from our art department. Our art students are participating in the Tampa Bay History Center's annual DooDad Project competition and are featured in 83 Degrees! You can find the article here . We have high hopes that our students’ entries will be awarded and applaud Ms. Fleischbein for her steadfast encouragement of our budding artists.
