For The Love of Lexie
ddd When Joseph and LeaAnn Falabella lost their 9-year-old daughter, Alexandra, to pediatric cancer in 2009, the Plainview couple searched for meaning amongst all the heartache. Though grieving their immense loss, they found a way to honor their daughter's memory and keep her spirit alive as an inspiration for others.

Dear Friends,

It's that time of year again: school is in session, and the days are jam-packed with activities. Between homework, studying, clubs and sports, there is always something to do.

We know just how you feel, since here at The Lexiebean Foundation, our days are filled to the brim with the work we are doing for the kids who need us most. Here are some updates on what we've been up to since last month and what we've got to look forward to in the weeks to come.

Did you know that September is National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month? This is the time of year when we try to spread the word about the challenges that confront children diagnosed with cancer, and the families that love them. Check out Lexie's Corner for more facts we all need to know about Pediatric Cancer from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

For the fourth year in a row, we held our Golf Outing, and as usual, this was one of our most popular events. Golfers got to enjoy 18 holes on the private course at Woodside Acres Country Club in beautiful Muttontown, New York.

Together, we shared a day of fun in the sun, along with lunch, dinner and cocktails. Everybody had a great time, and we were able to raise money to continue helping kids and families.

Our next big event is our Ocean to Sound Relay. It takes place on Sunday, Sept 29,  and we can't wait! We have 6 teams of 8 runners each, all ready to run for our cause. We are just $3,000.00 shy of our team's fundraising goal--please sponsor them if you can!

Want to become one of our Event or Website Sponsors? To learn more, please contact LeeAnn or Joe Falabella (Lexie's Mom or Dad) at our offices in Plainview at 516-776-9415.

Finally, get your recommended daily allowance of inspiration when you read Tanner's High Fives, the short list of people who have helped us out in so many creative ways.

All the best,

Your friends at The Lexiebean Foundation

Tanner

Whenever our young friend Tanner thought people did something really awesome, he'd give them a high five. So, in his memory, we'd like to give some High Fives and a giant "Thank You" to some truly amazing people:

  • We'd like to give a great big High Five to The John & Janet Kornreich Charitable Foundation. Their generous and substantial donation to The Lexiebean Foundation will DOUBLE our ability to help children and families touched by pediatric cancer. Thank you, John & Janet, for your incredible support! We can't thank you enough!
  • And of course, none of our events could ever succeed without the dedication and help we get from all of our attendees, golfers and volunteers.
  • An extra special High Five goes out to some of our younger supporters: Jake Geller, Jordyn Geller, Stephen, Zoe and Peter Sigalas, Tyler Sparke, Bryce Wylie and Brian Masi. They all pitched in to run a lemonade stand, raising over $70 for the Foundation!

Thanks for being so awesome!

BacktoSchoolBack to School

We helped Danny Alini, 7 years old, in remission for leukemia (pictured below) and his siblings by fulfilling their Back to School supply wish lists.

Danny Alini

In the future, we hope to expand our Back to School Program to help more kids like Danny and his siblings. Whether they are homeschooled or about to go back to a traditional classroom setting, school supplies are necessary and expensive! We're thrilled to be able to help pediatric cancer patients and their families with these important needs.
