Fever

Baby Nurse Question: My baby has a lingering cough and runny nose. Is there anything I can do to help ease the symptoms?

A: First make sure your baby gets checked out by his or her pediatrician.  Most coughs are a result of a virus and it's not unusual for the virus to hang on for a while. Your baby's care provider will probably explain to you that most of these viral coughs are harmless but can bother a child at inconvenient times, such as during the night when they interrupt sleep. If your baby still plays happily and doesn't have a fever, don't worry too much, the cough will go away in time.  Of course, if your baby develops a fever or if the cough worsens check in again with your care provider.

Here are some recommendations to try in order to soothe some of the symptoms.

M 3 Must-Dos as Baby Becomes Mobile

Whether it's the classic "Army crawl," cruising the furniture or outright wobbly walking, if your baby is getting around your home now as opposed to staying relatively stationary, it's time to take a few steps toward baby proofing if you haven't already.

Baby Nurse Tips to Keep Baby Healthy This Season

Easy Packing for the Holidays!

In a word, it takes forever to pack the family up for a trip-especially with a baby in tow. And with the holidays around the corner, I'd love to help you avoid that last minute throw-everything-you-can-think-of into bag upon bag as you pack up the car. To minimize the volume of things you absolutely have to bring, consider where your going and call ahead to find out whether it would be easier for you to borrow (like a Boppy or pack-n-play) rent (like a stroller) or buy (like diapers and wipes) while there. But when it comes to things you very well may need to bring from home, BabyCenter.com has a great checklist of things to remember. Just print and pack!

All the Best,

Carole
