New York Wine Country at your fingertips, and more from around the state.

Get Out Your Smartphone...

Go to http://www.winemag.com/nywineries to begin your virtual tour of New York Wine Country, and look up information as you go.

When you go to the home page, you'll be asked to select a region and, in some cases like the Finger Lakes, a sub-region.  Then you'll get an alphabetical list of the wineries in that region.  When you pick one, you'll see the address and phone number, and you can click on a link to their web site and/or get Google directions from wherever you are.  It's that simple, and that quick!

In addition to including every single winery in the State, this New York Wine Country "interactive infographic" includes a handful of recommendations in each region for dining, lodging, and other attractions.

By the way, you can also explore the infographic on your PC if you'd prefer, but we wanted people already on the move to be able to access the information at any time.  This is the electronic companion to our fabulous "New York Wine Country" bookazine (coffee table magazine), and for both projects we partnered with Wine Enthusiast magazine.

Both projects were made possible by Governor Andrew Cuomo's Craft Beverage Marketing and Promotion Program, which we greatly appreciate.  The home page includes the logos of I Love NY, the New York Wine & Grape Foundation, and Wine Enthusiast.  As with the Foundation's other promotion programs, the purpose is to expand the market for New York wines.

Insider's Guide to "New York Wine Country"

(You already saw this in the last edition, but I'm including it here because it's such a perfect fit with the interactive infographic described above.)

The front cover features a beautiful scene from a winery over a vineyard at sunset.  The back cover has a collection of photos showing New York agricultural products under the Taste NY logo.  The 140 pages in between contain articles and advertisements showcasing "New York Wine Country".

It's a supplement to Wine Enthusiast magazine, a coffee-table "bookazine"  which we sponsored thanks to a grant from Governor Andrew Cuomo's Craft Beverage Marketing and Promotion Grants, announced at the "Wine, Beer, Spirits, and Cider Summit" last October.  With a combination of winery advertising to raise private sector funds, and the State matching funds, we were able to co-create a publication which we believe reflects the progress, present, and promise of the New York wine industry from Long Island to Lake Erie and everywhere in between.

The bookazine was distributed with Wine Enthusiast's September edition and through the many wineries which advertised in it, reaching about 300,000 consumers throughout the State, country, and world.  It will soon be joined by a "New York Wine Country" electronic version (interactive inforgraphic) which will allow people to search for wineries, hotels, restaurants, and attractions from their desktop or even on smartphones when they're traveling to or through wine country.

Like everything else we do in our promotion program, the purpose of these projects is to expand the awareness, trial, and sales of New York wines--in other words, expand the market.

Tug Hill 2014 La Crescent won a Double Gold medal, and The Cape Winery Marquette a Gold, at the recent International Cold Climate Wine Competition held in Minnesota.

"Wine o'clock" is a new phrase in the Oxford English Dictionary, meaning "an appropriate time of day to start drinking wine."  Isn't that anytime?

Food Network blog on Where to Eat and Drink on the North Fork included nice mentions of Bedell Cellars, Bridge Lane Tasting Room, Lieb Cellars Tasting Room, One Woman Wines, Shinn Estate, Sparkling Pointe, and The Old Field Vineyards.  Oh, and also Greenport Harbor Brewing for the suds.

New York Wine & Food Classic got great coverage in USA Today, which we greatly appreciate.  (Also, a correction: the Best Sparkling was Goose Watch Pinot Noir Brut--not Swedish Hill.)
