B.E.V. NY is a not-to be missed conference orchestrated by Cornell Cooperative Extension on February 26-28 at the R.I.T. Conference Center just off Exit 46 of the Thruway (I-90) near Rochester.
The acronym stands for Business, Enology, and Viticulture, the three topics covered over three days by expert speakers from Cornell University, Cooperative Extension, and other institutions. It's also a great networking opportunity to connect with industry colleagues, and on Thursday we'll have our "Unity Luncheon" to recognize people who have made major contributions to our industry's success.
Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester is one of the country's most famous and exclusive golf courses, having hosted the U.S. Open, Ryder Cup and other top tournaments over the years. And for the first time ever, to my knowledge, the Club will host a Finger Lakes Wine Dinner for its members.
This is a big deal, and welcome recognition that the wine region to the southeast of Oak Hill is world-class just like the Club itself. They have selected four different wines from four wineries--Dr. Frank 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling, Chateau Lafayette Reneau 2012 Cabernet Franc, Ingle Vineyards 2012 Chardonnay, and Forge Cellars 2013 Pinot Noir.
We appreciate their interest and wish them a great wine dinner.
Senator Chuck Schumer is a great supporter of our industry, as well as our colleagues in the beer, spirits and cider sectors. Most recently, he introduced legislation that would reduce the tax on hard cider, which would benefit apple growers, cider producers, and consumers alike. The cider sector is growing very strongly in New York State, and this measure could help accelerate it.
