The Finger Lakes International Wine Competion is North America's largest charitable wine competition, with proceeds benefiting Camp Good Days and Special Times for children with serious illnesses.  Another major part of the total package is a Charitable Gala Dinner on May 4 (www.fliwc.com).

Meanwhile, at the Dallas Morning News and TexSom Competition, New York took 4 Gold, 9 Silver, and 20 Bronze medals.  Golds went to Casa Larga 2010 Fiore Delle Stelle Vidal Ice Wine (a consistent winner of top awards in many competitions year after year); Coyote Moon Twisted Sister; Dr. Frank 2010 Cabernet Franc; and Johnson Estate Niagara.

Correction: Last weekend, we listed the Best Dessert Wine in San Diego as an "Ice Wine" from Wagner Vineyards (i.e., made from grapes frozen on the vine before picking and processing) when in fact it was Wagner Ice (when the grapes are picked, then frozen before processing).  In any case, it's a significant accomplishment.
