The Liberty Public Schools Board of Education met for its regular meeting on Monday, April 18, 2016.  Following, is a recap of that meeting:
Meeting Highlights
Connor/Roffmann Begin Three-Year Terms on BOE
At the Monday, April 18, Board of Education meeting, Mr. Scott Connor and Mr. Andrew Roffmann were officially sworn in to serve on the LPS Board of Education. Both Mr. Connor and Mr. Roffmann ran unopposed in this spring's election.
Each will serve three-year terms.
Board President/Vice-President Selections Made
The Board voted unanimously to have Mr. David Evans continue to serve as board president for 2016-2017, and Mr. Andy Roffmann continue to serve as vice-president of the Board.  Both Evans and Roffmann served this past year in the same roles on the Board. 
Fine Arts Department Recognized
The Liberty Public Schools Fine Arts Department was recognized for recently being honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation. This is the fourth year in a row LPS has received this recognition and one of only two districts in the Show-Me State that can celebrate this achievement!

In addition, LPS Director of Fine Arts Aaron Money was congratulated for being presented with the Administrator of the Year Award by the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education on March 31 at the state capital in Jefferson City, MO! 
Morgan Fleming Congratulated for DiRenna Award
Liberty High School Senior Morgan Fleming was congratulated by the Board for recently being named the 2016 DiRenna Award recipient, which goes to the most outstanding female high school basketball player in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Fleming becomes the first LPS basketball player to receive this award in its sixty-year existence! Way to go Morgan!
Mr. Cliff Redmond Recognized
The Board was also able to formally recognize and congratulate Mr. Cliff Redmond, who was recently selected as the 2016-2017 LPS Support Employee of the Year.  "Mr. Cliff", as known by his students, was surprised at an all-school assembly with the award on Thursday, March 7, at his home school, Discovery Middle School.  Congratulations "Mr. Cliff"! 
Board Business
Board Approves Staff Compensation Schedules
The Board approved LPS staff compensation schedules at the April 18 meeting. These schedules, which may be accessed by clicking here, were recommended by Dr. Tucker and presented to the Board for review last month. The salary and benefits packages were first submitted to Dr. Tucker from the LPS internal staff committee, Team Liberty, earlier this spring.
Board Approves Capital Expenditures
LPS Chief Financial Officer Ms. Cindy Sullivant provided the Board with an update on the budget development process, including a summary of expenditures for FY17. 

Chief Operations Officer Steve Anderson shared district facility needs on the annual capital plan. The Board approved the purchase of the facility at Blackberry Commons, which houses Liberty Academy. LPS has leased this facility for the past two years. In addition, the Board approved the installation of field turf at Liberty High School and Liberty North High School this summer, to be accessible this fall.

Next Board Meeting Scheduled for Monday, May 23

The Board will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, May 23, at the District Administration Center. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Ways to Stay Informed on Board Happenings

The public has several opportunities to stay informed of LPS Board of Education happenings. Following, are methods in which monthly Board meetings can be viewed.

 

Channel 18 Coverage

The Liberty Public Schools Cable Television Channel, KLPS-TV Channel 18, records each Board meeting that takes place on the third Monday of each month and replays the meeting for approximately one week, usually beginning the Thursday following the regularly-scheduled meeting. They will be shown daily at 8 a.m.  Households need to have Time Warner Cable service to receive Channel 18 programming.
