The Liberty Public Schools Board of Education met for its regular meeting on Monday, September 21, 2015.  Following, is a recap of that meeting:
Meeting Highlights
LNHS Student Recognized for Service Project
The Board recognized Liberty North High School freshman Nik Baumert, who recently led a service project through his Eagle Scout Troop, delivering over 1,700 sets of ear buds to students who attend Liberty Public Schools. The value of his donation exceeds $1,000 and greatly benefits our students. Thank you, Nik, for your awesome generosity!
LPS Receives Commitment to Prevention Award
LPS was congratulated for recently receiving the 2015 Outstanding Commitment to Prevention Award by Tri-County Mental Health. This award was presented at the organization's 25th anniversary event.  LPS was applauded as being one of the first to update school policies as new substance abuse trends emerged, while also engaging students in the bi-annual Missouri Student Survey. LPS shared this data, helping to achieve local funding. In attendance at Monday night's meeting were Kendra Callaway, Liberty Alliance for Youth Prevention Coordinator, Laura Bruce, Tri-County Mental Health representative, Elise Bennett, Liberty Alliance for Youth Co-President, and Dr. Jim Hammen, LPS Director of Student Services. Unable to attend was LAFY Co-President, Dr. Greg Mees, Liberty High School Assistant Principal.
Board Business
LPS Employee Health/Benefits Update
The Board received a presentation from Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Robert Vogelaar, regarding the district's upcoming health/benefits renewal.  The recommendation was first developed by the district's internal committee, Team Liberty, which was submitted to Dr. Tucker for review. Next Board Meeting Scheduled for Monday, Oct. 19

The Board will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, October 19, at the District Administration Center. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Ways to Stay Informed on Board Happenings

The public has several opportunities to stay informed of LPS Board of Education happenings. Following, are methods in which monthly Board meetings can be viewed.

 

Channel 18 Coverage

The Liberty Public Schools Cable Television Channel, KLPS-TV Channel 18, records each Board meeting that takes place on the third Monday of each month and replays the meeting for approximately one week, usually beginning the Thursday following the regularly-scheduled meeting. They will be shown daily at 8 a.m.  Households need to have Time Warner Cable service to receive Channel 18 programming.
