The Liberty Public Schools Board of Education met for its regular meeting on Monday, August 17, 2015.  Following, is a recap of that meeting:
Meeting Highlights
LNHS Student Recognized for Summer Achievement
The Board recognized Liberty North High School Junior Aubrey Larkin for accomplishments achieved over the summer.

Aubrey participated in STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America's (FCCLA) 2015 National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C.
Aubrey received a Gold Medal in the category of Interpersonal Communication for her work with an area nursing home and helping connect students to the problem of elder neglect. Nearly 8,000 members and advisors from across the nation attended this conference July 5-9.

Joining Aubrey at Monday's meeting was her sponsor, Ms. Jody Fowler.  Way to go Aubrey!   
Board Business
Tax Rate Hearing Held
Just prior to the regular Board of Education meeting, the annual Tax Rate Hearing was held.

Based on State Auditor Office calculation data, a recommendation to set the tax rate for 2015 at $4.8456 Operating, $1.2494 Debt Service, and $0.36 Capital Projects is provided at the link below.  The total levy recommended for the 2015-2016 fiscal year is $6.455, maintaining the same levy rate as the previous year.

Board Receives Demographic Update
The Board received a Demographic Update from Applied Economics, who has done similar work for LPS in previous studies. 

Highlights from the presentation included the fact that families continue to move inside LPS boundaries, and the district will see a continued climb in its student population moving into the future.  The Board will plan to take the information provided at Monday's meeting and study it further as the district plans for the coming years.  To view the document in detail, click here.

Next Board Meeting Scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21

The Board will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, September 21, at the District Administration Center. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Ways to Stay Informed on Board Happenings

The public has several opportunities to stay informed of LPS Board of Education happenings. Following, are methods in which monthly Board meetings can be viewed.

 

Channel 18 Coverage

The Liberty Public Schools Cable Television Channel, KLPS-TV Channel 18, records each Board meeting that takes place on the third Monday of each month and replays the meeting for approximately one week, usually beginning the Thursday following the regularly-scheduled meeting. They will be shown daily at 8 a.m.  Households need to have Time Warner Cable service to receive Channel 18 programming.
