It's a bumper edition this week, packed with news, events and resources. It's also the last edition using the present design as we move to a new look e-news in two weeks time, July 21. 24 men and women begin ministry as deacons across the diocese this week, following two packed services held at the weekend in Wakefield Cathedral. They include a former GP, a headteacher, a magistrate, and a former telecomms trainer. See the pictures and read the stories here

 From 14 July, the diocese will be known only as the Diocese of Leeds. The new logo will feature on all diocesan communications. Read more.

Our six bishops have written to all clergy following the EU Referendum encouraging prayers for reconciliation. They invite churches to remain open as a safe space for prayer and reflection. Read the letter here

Prayers and vigils have been held in churches across the diocese for the murdered MP, Jo Cox. Bishops and clergy joined with MPs and community leaders in moving tributes in the towns in which she served. Read more here

 Canon John Clayton is thought to be unique in the CofE as he recently celebrated his 105th birthday as well as 80 years of ordained ministry. A special service was led by Bishop Nick at St Giles' Bramhope, Leeds. More here

Baqoun, a group of Palestinian Christian dancers from Bethlehem have thrilled audiences at churches and cathedrals in Yorkshire during a ten day tour which helped to spread understanding of the challenges facing Christians in Palestine. Read more

At 7.30am on 1 July a single bell tolled from the three cathedrals and many churches to mark the moment, 100 years ago, that troops went over the top at the start of the Battle of the Somme. People across the region have been remembering the conflict and at Bradford a special service is being held this Saturday - more here

 Today, the diocese has launched a photo competition, and the winners will appear on the walls of the new diocesan office in Leeds. There are three categories (including a children's category) and we're looking for exciting and slightly unusual images. Closing date 30 September. More here.

Hide & Seek is the theme of the interactive display created jointly by Yorkshire Church on Show. Fizzy prayers, blocks of hope and a tunnel of discovery will be in the Church Pavilion by the Main Arena at the Great Yorkshire Show 12-14 July, Harrogate. More here.

 A new re-telling of the Wakefield Mystery Plays will be performed by professional actors and local young people in Wakefield Cathedral from 11-20 August. The two-part production from Theatre Royal Wakefield is a gripping look at the old and new testaments as well as the city's recent history. More information including booking here.

Five big events to celebrate and encourage church growth are being held this autumn in each Episcopal Area. The Celebrate 5 dates are: September 17 - Halifax Minster, 24 - Bradford Cathedral, October 1 - Ripon Cathedral, 8 - Leeds Minster, 15 - Wakefield Cathedral. More.

Young people are being invited to take a year out at All Saints Ilkley. From September, in partnership with New Wine, the church will be a Discipleship Year training centre offering a combination of teaching, reflection and hands-on serving in a local church.  A fresh chapter of church life is beginning in Keighley as a new single Church of England parish has been created from four historic parishes, It came into effect at the end of May and the appointment of new Team Rector, Revd Mike Cansdale (right), has just been announced- more here

St Thomas' Bradley plan to celebrate harvest in an unusual way this September. Alongside a sausage sizzle, fire pit, treasure hunt and shelter making they'll build a knicker mountain of new underwear to be given to the homeless in Huddersfield. They're hoping that other churches will pick up on the idea too. More here.

A yellow double-decker bus has been transformed by South Leeds churches into a social/activity centre for local teenagers and other groups - to show God's love and help make Rothwell & District a more neighbourly place to live. More here.

As the Great Yorkshire Show gets underway in Harrogate (see Events), Bishop Nick has opened the new £11.5m state-of-the-art exhibition hall. It's the largest single-span space in the North of England - the size of 3.5 Olympic swimming pools - more here

Mothers' Union members in the Wakefield Area are leading the way in creating new dementia friendly tools to support agitated patients. Aimed particularly at male patients they have produced gardening and tool belts to encourage flexilibity and brain stimulation. More here.

 Churches in the former Bradford diocese have enjoyed a link with the Lutheran Church in the City of Erfurt, former GDR, since the 1990's. Now there are two further opportunities to take part in visits to the city - for the Kirchentag in May 2017, or on a visit with Bishop Nick Baines this coming October. More details.

Change the Story is a new campaign from Christian Aid reminding us of our proud history of supporting refugees, encouraging the government to do more to help the 65 million people displaced globally and recognising the contribution refugees make. Faith groups are often at the heart of local initiatives and the campaign asks people to write to their local newspapers and help change the story around refugees. More here.
