Poppies have been planted across the new diocese as a joint act of remembrance for the centenary of World War One. Yesterday, 30 April, was designated as Poppy Planting Day and the bishops set the scene, scattering poppy seeds at cathedrals and gardens. More here ......

A new united College of Canons representing all three cathedrals of the new diocese has gathered together for the first time, at the request of Her Majesty the Queen. The royal summons brought members together at Wakefield Cathedral to elect Bishop Nick Baines as the first Bishop of Leeds.  More here 

Bishop Nick Baines has taken on the role of acting Diocesan Bishop ahead of being confirmed as  the actual Bishop of Leeds on 8 June at York Minster. The announcement was made by the Archbishop of York in a statement welcoming the new diocese.Read more here... 
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, has written an open letter in which he thanks members of the three former Yorkshire dioceses "for all that you have given and forsaken in the interests of God's future".

Near Neighbours expands through the diocese  

Now Leeds as well as Bradford will benefit from the successful Near Neighbours programme which brings people together through such things as interfaith boxing clubs, football tournaments, youth talks, social groups for elders and all sorts of creative projects. More here.

EVENTS

Lightwater Valley Theme Park near Ripon will be welcoming thousands of young people aged 11-18 from churches across the region on Saturday May 10th for this year's Big Night Out. As well as full and exclusive access to all the rides, the day concludes with a concert.  Click here to find out more and to book your places 

The invitation is going out to churches throughout the region to put Saturday June 14th and 'Harrogate' into the diary. Congregations and groups are being encouraged to the town for a unique diocesan 'Day Out' where they can experience and learn about a wide variety of Fresh Expressions and church growth initiatives. Le Grand Ride Out on July 19th is a sponsored cycle ride organised by local Christian charities following Stage 1 of the 2014 Tour de France from Leeds to Harrogate. Short, medium or full routes are available.  For more information and to sign up click here

A Season of Invitation
Season of Invitationis the development of Back to Church Sunday with five opportunities to particularly invite people to church across the year. The new diocese is registered.
