The Revd Canon John Dobson, currently serving in the Diocese of Durham, was introduced last week as the choice for the new Dean of Ripon, following the death of the Very Revd Keith Jukes last year. John (49) is currently Vicar of Blackwell All Saints and Salutation, and Priest-in-Charge of Coniscliffe. He also serves as Area Dean of Darlington - read more about him here.

Church  leaders from across the diocese have given overwhelming backing to new legislation which could enable women to become bishops by the end of the year. Ripon and Leeds Diocesan Synod met at St Aidan's High School in Harrogate, on March 1st, the first diocese to vote on the package of legislation which has been sent out from General Synod.  Read a report here.
Bishop James led tributes at Diocesan Synod on March 1st to His Honour Judge Simon Grenfell who steps down as Chancellor after 22 years when the diocese is dissolved on Easter Day. He described Simon as a key officer who had played a vital part in the diocese. Diocesan Registrar, Nicola Harding is pictured presenting Simon with a gift on behalf of the diocese. Read more here from Synod

Senior Church Leaders from across West Yorkshire have come together to express their shared concern for food justice. In the context of public Ash Wednesday prayer together in the shopping precinct outside Wakefield Cathedral, WYEC leaders expressed their commitment to a society without hunger. At the same time churches were encouraged to show generosity by giving away food and St Martin's Potternewton gave fruit and biscuits to passers-by at Chapeltown Road (pictured)  - for a full report on the WYEC website click here.

After 14 years in its current form, 'Together', the diocesan monthly bulletin with a circulation of more than 14,000 comes to an end, to make way for a new publication for the whole of West Yorkshire and the Dales from July. In May and June churches which receive Together will continue to receive WYAD transformation news in paper form, free of charge. Details of the new publication will be announced in due course. Read the final, April,  edition of 'Together' online by clicking here.

Have Your Say - Bishops' Lent deanery meetings

Local congregations and clergy from across the region have been having their say and there are still some meetings to come to help shape the agenda for the new diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. With the Bishop of Pontefract, the Rt Rev Tony Robinson or the Bishop of Knaresborough, the Rt Rev James Bell - both of whom will become area bishops in the new diocese on the Appointed Day at Easter. More details of where your nearest meeting is by clicking here.

The invitation is going out to churches throughout the region to put Saturday June 14th and 'Harrogate' into the diary. Congregations and groups are being encouraged to the town for a unique diocesan 'Day Out' where they can experience and learn about a wide variety of Fresh Expressions and church growth initiatives. St Augustine's youth group in Bradford have created their own 'cardboard testimony' that they can share with their friends on Youtube. It shows young people expressing - on big pieces of cardboard - how they feel God helps them. Check out their video on YouTube by clicking here
A Church in Brighouse is to run market stalls at the town's flourishing weekend events - thanks to the Bishop of Wakefield and the Hope 2014 initiative. St Martin's Brighouse got involved with the town's traders last year  - thanks to curate, Fr Andrew Hall who has a heart for the market stall holders - it was so successful they decided to use their £100 gift to mark Bishop Stephen Platten's 10th anniversary as Bishop of Wakefield to buy a stall at every big town event throughout the year.  Read more about the initiative here..
