AVOID PHISHING ATTEMPTS DURING TAX SEASON... AND EVERY SEASON
|
Tax season is here and just like every other season, it's important to use caution when checking your E-mail. Phishing attempts are getting more sophisticated and appear to be the real thing. Always keep the following in mind when checking your E-mail.
- The IRS will never ask for your information via E-mail
- Never provide sensitive information via E-mail (Social Security Number, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, PIN numbers, etc.)
- Mouse over (do NOT click - just hover) the E-mail address in the "From" field to confirm the sender is who they say they are
- Mouse over any links to confirm it's directing you to a legitimate website
- If you receive a money transfer request, make sure to contact the sender via phone or in person to confirm they actually made the request before sending the money

PASSWORDS - CHANGING AND SECURITY
|
Creating a secure password helps prevent hacker attempts and data breaches. Sometimes these attacks are out of your control, but an attack will be less likely if you follow our tips below.
- Your password should be at least 16 characters - Think about using a quote, music lyric, movie title, etc.
- Your password should contain a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols
- Avoid repetition, username, IDs, your first name, your last name and sequences (e.g. 123 or abc)
- Do not use the same password for multiple accounts
- If you have trouble remembering passwords, use a password manager like LastPass
