Our elderly loved ones are being targeted for cyber crimes, so it's important that we educate them the best we can! Please read and share our tips below.
1. Phishing E-mails are E-mails that appear to be legitimate messages from legitimate senders when they are actually NOT legitimate AT ALL! They're simply a way to retrieve sensitive data like usernames, passwords, and even financial information.
-Avoid clicking links in a suspicious E-mail
-Delete the E-mail right away and empty your Trash folder
2. NEVER WRITE DOWN OR GIVE AWAY YOUR PASSWORD!
3. A more recent telephone scam involves scammers calling and acting like they work for Microsoft. They offer to remove malware from your computer, then request remote access or credit card information in order to remove the malware.
-Avoid giving sensitive information over the telephone (e.g. Social Security Number, passwords, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, etc.)
-Remember that Microsoft will NEVER call you to inform you about malware on your computer
