Security Alert - Internet Explorer - What You Need to Know!

Over the weekend, it became known that the Internet Explorer web browser has a serious security flaw.

The flaw allows something called "remote code execution" meaning someone could take over your computer if you visited a malicious website or a website that had malicious advertisements.

This is a zero-day vulnerability meaning that the flaw is known to be actively exploited. According to Microsoft, they are aware of some limited attacks against certain financial institutions and defense contractors.

Unfortunately, zero-day attacks are nothing new and affect a wide range of technologies we use every day. Some are more severe and this one is considered high-risk.

In the meantime, consider using an alternate web browser such as Firefox and Chrome. If you have to use Internet Explorer, make sure you only go to known websites you require for work. Do not use it for regular browsing. Also avoid websites that have any inline advertisements.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Tobin Solutions managed services customers whose agreements include patching will automatically get patched as patches are made available.  Please contact us for more information or questions.
