The Tale of Two Windows - Buy Carefully!

Microsoft's new operating system is available in two flavors - Windows 8 and Windows RT.  It's important to understand the main differences between the two and choose carefully so you get the features you want.

 

Windows 8 comes in home, small business, and enterprise versions and will work on most hardware you already own. It runs standard Windows programs and Windows 8 applications from the Microsoft App Store that are based on the new, tiled interface.  Windows 8 is available on desktops, notebooks, and designated tablets.

 

Windows RT is a special version - usually used on tablets - that only runs the new, tiled apps from the Microsoft App Store. It includes a "desktop," but it is locked down and only runs a special version of Microsoft Office. 

  

If in doubt, please ask us before you purchase new equipment or applications. We want your IT investments to work for you and meet your needs.

 

Note:  Windows 7 is still available for purchase on new computers.

How to Use Our Help Desk for Urgent Issues and Emergencies 

There are times when you have an urgent computer problem and you require a fast response.  Whether it's during the business day or after-hours or weekends, Tobin Solutions is here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year! 

 

So that we may most effectively serve you, please use the following procedures:

  1. For urgent problems, always call 414-443-9999 and select 1 for the helpdesk.  If you don't get a live response during normal business hours or you've called during after-hours/weekend, our voice mail system will pick up so you can select to leave a message for the on-call engineers as follows:
    • Choose 1 for an urgent emergency callback - usually 30 minutes or less
    • Choose 2 for all other requests - a 4-hour response during business hours or the next business day for after-hour/weekend calls
  2. For low-priority problems or other requests, please email [email protected].  You will receive a response within 4 hours (or sooner based on your service level agreement) during business hours or the next business day for after-hour/weekend calls.

Any time you contact us for help, please provide a detailed message with your name, phone number, the best time to reach you, and a brief description of the problem.

 

NEVER email or call an engineer directly for urgent/emergency problems.  They may be out of the office or unavailable to support you.
