HOMEOWNER INSURANCE RATES EXPECTED TO INCREASE
Unfortunately, Massachusetts homeowners rates will be on the rise this year due to last winter's "record-setting" snowfall.  Insurance premiums are expected to jump by approximately 9% which translates into an additional $100 on the average Massachusetts homeowner premium of $1,150.00.

The MA Divison of Insurance recently approved an 8.9% increase for the state's largest insurance carrier.  All the other carriers are expected to follow suit.

We are hoping that the weather pattern improves this coming winter season so that the property insurance marketplace will stabilize.

Further, we are recommending that anybody who sustained water damage claims due to the harsh winter weather, take the necessary steps to ensure that they properly repair their homes  to prevent any future claims of this same nature. Some of the MA insurance carriers are non-renewing homeowner policies for clients who filed ice dam claims and didn't take any preventative measures.

We want to be sure this doesn't happen to you!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know the different state cell phone laws?
by Brian Bouchard

Note that on July 1, New Hampshire's HB 1360 took effect. Commonly known as the hands-free law, it prohibits drivers from holding or manually imputing commands into electronic devices, such as cellphones, GPS units, mp3 players and tablets, while driving.

Under the law, drivers 18 or older can interact with their electronic devices via hands-free systems, like Bluetooth; drivers who are younger are prohibited from usinge electronic devices altogether, hands-free or not. Penalties for violating the law range from a $100 fine for the first offense, a $250 fine for the second offense, and a $500 fine for any subsequent offense in a 24-month period. Minors, however, can have their licenses either suspended or revoked.

For most of us, the hands-free law will require slight adjustments to our everyday driving habits. We find ourselves conversing with Siri a bit too regularly now.
(Me: "Siri, play the Allman Brothers." Siri: "Calling all your brothers.")

For many employers who use vehicles for their business and require employees to drive as a part of their jobs, transitioning to a hands-free world may require new technology and will require new vehicle safety policies. Most businesses require their employees to obey all local, state and federal regulations while traveling on company business. Before the new law, this meant that an employee could dial into meetings, place equipment orders, answer emails at a stoplight and make sales calls, all while on the go.

But in the hands-free world, that same employee must use hands-free voice commands to accomplish those same tasks. This can create tension between employer policies and employer business needs, because the law may prevent an employee from performing his or her duties while on the road, especially without proper technology. Data Breach.... The dangers to small businesses
godly-enter-key.jpg
While data breaches for large companies seem to be constantly in the spotlight, the truth is that these exposures are just as realistic for small businesses.    In fact, the financial consequences for small businesses can be far greater.  Small business owners who do not safeguard and protect customers personal information, could soon find themselves facing thousands to possibly millions of dollars in losses that are not covered by their current insurance policies.

Retailers and companies that utilize credit and debit cards are at risk daily.  One of the largest exposure for these businesses occurs when they are found by the credit and debit companies to be non-compliant with payment card industry standards: ( PCI)  Fines and recovery costs can, and most often are, levied upon the merchants by the credit/debit card companies.  Have you reviewed your PCI standards of lately?  If not, this would be the first place to start in managing these data breach risks.

Companies that possess, and have access to, client personal information, (PI), are also at risk.  Cyber criminals are active everywhere and every day, so it is imperative to confirm that your network security systems are up to date at all times.  The evolution of data breach and network security insurance coverage is rampant now, as businesses seek not only to mitigate losses from breaches but also to be indemnified in the event one happens.  The costs of notifying all clients, monitoring their credit and the employee hours spent avoiding future losses are far too great to be assumed by many small businesses.

Review all your IT security and PCI controls now and research options to insure against these data breaches that are "rearing their ugly heads" daily.
What is for dinner?
How many times have we heard that? How about trying  something new for dinner. like Hawaiian Chicken and Pineapple?
