 Spring Cleaning*

by Traci Martin

*From Big Dream's new
Be Amazing study

It is that time of year again when the birds are singing, the air is warming, and the days are longer. That can only mean one thing - Spring Cleaning! The origin of spring cleaning goes back to using fireplaces to heat the houses. When the heating season was over, the house was opened up to air out and everything was washed to remove the smoky residue that built up over the winter. Today's furnaces may not leave remnant behind, but it is still a great time to refresh and renew our homes.

While we are spring cleaning, we should also take a look at our hearts. The heart of every believer is the home of the Holy Spirit.

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body" -

1 Corinthians 6:19-20.

Is there clutter that needs to be removed? Are there issues that prevent us from seeing the Lord fully? Often we don't realize the hazy film that has formed over our heart until we take the time to remove it. We are reminded in scripture to invite God to point out the areas that need cleaning.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way" -

Psalm 139:23-24.

With prayer and supplication, we can offer ourselves to the Lord to "Create in me a clean heart," (Psalm 51:10) for a refreshed and renewedrelationship with Him.

Clearing out the clutter that has piled up and cleaning the frequently ignored areas of our house will freshen the stale air and make our homes shine. The benefit of spring cleaning goes beyond maintaining a healthy environment but also rejuvenates our affection for our homes.

II Samuel

By Eleanor Lewis

King David, a man after God's own heart, had a lost weekend. He went where he should not have been - staying in the palace instead of leading his troops in battle. Therefore, he saw what he should not have seen - Bathsheba bathing. Then he did what he should not have done - committed adultery and murder! Lesson #1: Are you where the Lord desires or are you hanging near places of temptation? Have you 'seen' something or someone causing dissatisfaction or lust in your heart? Are you tempted to do what you know you should not do?

God sent Nathan to convict David of His sin. What a hard job, yet 2 SamuelNathan did it gently by telling a story of a rich man taking a poor man's only lamb. David repented and was forgiven though consequences remained. God convicts us so we repent and are cleansed, Satan condemns so we feel hopeless. Lesson #2: God may want to use you to convict others living in sin. We must be careful of the "log in our own eye" but we must also be bold and obedient to speak gently God's Words of truth.

What does 2 Samuel say to you today?

TAC Testimony

from Maryanne Shipley, Dir. Of Women's Ministries

First Presbyterian Church- Macon, GA

In the fall of 2011 eighty plus women at First Presbyterian Church, PCA,1st Pres. Macon Macon began the three year trek through The Amazing Collection.  The years have flown by. We hear each week, 'I can't believe we have finished all 66 books!'  A majority of the women had been together for seven years doing a variety of wonderful Bible studies.  In 2011 Eleanor challenged us with the idea that you do not read a book in bits and pieces here and there - but from beginning to end!

With many skeptical on how 'deep' this study could be doing a book a week, but knowing that God had led us to this study, we began in the fall.  We met together to see the video and then we broke into 8 small groups to have accountability and discussion of the homework.  We found the workbook questions to be so challenging and helpful that the majority of women had no trouble making time to do the work.  Again we heard, 'How deep can this be - a week a book?'  Yet it has been just that.  Not only have we learned great material, but our lives have been challenged to conformity to the image of Christ!

Understanding the Timeline of God's sovereign plan for history from Genesis to Revelation has done much in promoting just that, HIS SOVEREIGNTY over all!  Through this, many have gotten a better grasp on the Plan of Redemption from beginning to end and thus God is Glorified.  We are an old downtown church and have had good, sound teaching for years, but this has helped put much together.  I know of nothing else like this study and highly recommend it for all ages, but how wonderful to get it young and have it in mind to add to for years.

The Amazing Adventure: 2 Samuel
TAA Cover
THE AMAZING ADVENTURE

By Pat Harley

Remember the people of Israel wanting a king? We learned about David the shepherd in 1 Samuel but in 2 Samuel we learn about David the great King!

The people of Israel asked David to be the king over all of Israel! Now being king is a very big job but God had prepared David to not only be king, but to become a king who loved and trusted God the best!

E2 Samuel/King Davidvery time the enemies would come to fight Israel, David and his mighty men would win the battle. They were not afraid at all because God was with them!

God promised David that he would always be remembered as a great man and one of David's relatives would always sit on the throne of Israel. He also said that one day a relative would be so great that He would be king forever and ever. That relative would be Jesus!

David did not do everything right and sometimes he disobeyed God but once he realized that he had disobeyed God he would run to him and apologize and God would always forgive him because that is the way our great King is.

King David was known throughout the world as a man after God's own heart. That means that he loved and trusted God because God always keeps His promises. Visit my blog
