SUPPORTING PROFESSIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION IN EUROPE
 
cloetEURASHE announces that at the 2014 General Assembly of EURASHE, held on 14 May in Yerevan (Armenia), Mr Johan Cloet (Belgium) was appointed as the new Secretary General of EURASHE (from 2014 to 2016), to succeed Stefan Delplace (Secretary General from 2004-2014). The EURASHE community wishes him a successful career in our association.
You will find attached a brief biographical note of the new Secretary General of EURASHE.

Johan Cloet is the former General Director of Lessius University College / Vice-General Director of Thomas More University College in Antwerp, Belgium (2008-2012). He has been involved in the activities of the Flemish Council of University Colleges (VLHORA - member of EURASHE) as member of its steering board, and president of the steering group of educational policy. In 2013 Johan Cloet has been selected as a member of evaluation teams in the framework of the Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) of the European University Association. A former ministerial advisor to the government of the Brussels Region, Johan Cloet's field of study is psychology.

EURASHE will organise a Seminar on Professional Higher Education in Otocec Castle (Slovenia), on 16-17 October 2014.


 
The seminar in the beautiful Castle of Otocec will bring forward recent developments in the professional higher education sphere. The outcomes of the HAPHE project will present the work on definition and characteristics of professional higher education. At the same time, case studies from various countries will stimulate better understanding of different trends across Europe. The seminar will further position professional higher education in the EHEA and contribute to the process of its harmonisation.

EURASHE organised its 24th Annual Conference 'Qualifications for the Labour Market' in Yerevan (Armenia) on 15-16 May 2014. We would like to thank all the speakers, participants and organisers for contributing to another successful EURASHE Annual Conference.

EURASHE will take centre stage at this year's EQAF alongside representatives of the European Students' Union (ESU) - in parallel plenary sessions and in workshops.



The 9th EQAF will take place in Barcelona (Spain) on 13-15 November 2014 and will concentrate on the topic of 'Changing Education - Quality Assurance and the Shift from Teaching to Learning'.

The call for contributions is open until 25 July - EURASHE urges its members and partners to contribute to the 9th edition of the European Quality Assurance Forum.

The PHExcel report on Quality Tools for Professional Higher Education Review and Improvement will be published early July.
It is the project's first outcome, and will provide an overview of quality tools currently used in (professional) higher education. It is followed by a gap analysis as regards the ESG, and the identified characteristics of professional higher education.

EURYDICE REPORT: MODERNISATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION
The European Commission has recently published a second report in a series following the evolution of the modernisation agenda for higher education in Europe. It follows a 2011 report on funding and the social dimension. It examines policy and practice related to the student experience of higher education through three stages.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE 2020
The European Commission launched on 5 May 2014 a public consultation on the future of the Europe 2020 Strategy. This consultation will be open until 31 October 2014. All interested parties are invited to take part and make their views on Europe 2020 and its future development hard.
The policy background and overall context of the Europe 2020 review have been set out in the Commission's Communication of 5 March 2014 on 'Taking stock of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth'. The public consultation is accessible through 'Your Voice in Europe' or the dedicated page on the Europe 2020 website here.

EURASHE's 25th Annual Conference will take place in Lisbon (Portugal) on 16-17 April 2015. Book the dates already. The conference will be organised in cooperation with the Portuguese Polytechnics Coordinating Council (CCISP).

EADTU is organising its Open and Flexible Higher Education Conference 2014 in Krakow (Poland), on 23-24 October 2014. It will concentrate on 'New Technologies and the Future of Teaching and Learning'. 
asf2014 APPLIED SCIENCES FORUM - 27-28/OCT
The 2014 Applied Sciences Forum 'Learning Activity, Study Environment and Innovative Real Life Learning' will take place in Aalborg (Denmark), on 27-28 October 2014. Members of EURASHE, a co-organiser of the forum, benefit from a reduced registration fee.
