The fee to the state/vendor for printing the permit will be $2.75 per permit, billed to the dealer's account and paid monthly with a credit card on file or an ACH payment.  

A Georgia dealer and a state employee were arrested for odometer fraud. Details below.

Have you tried GeoTax.com for free local sales and use tax rates?   Enter the tax rate type: "AUTO", the customer's address and the dollar purchase amount.  Geo tax will show you the state, county and city tax rate, as well as the tax amount.  It also lists Special Purpose Districts taxes.

Temporary Permit Changes
On May 16th, the Colorado Department of Revenue sent out a letter to all licensed dealers advising them of the upcoming changes to the temporary permits.

The current temporary permit and dealer stub will be discontinued and will be no longer valid for issuance on and after July 1, 2016.  Any remaining inventory should be returned to the Department for proper destruction.  Refunds cannot be granted for the current temporary permits and dealer stubs already purchased by your dealership.

The new permits are to be placed on the rear of the vehicle where a license plate should be - using the new mounting boards.

Dealer training is scheduled in the following cities:
  • Denver
  • Pueblo
  • Durango
  • Greeley
  • Steamboat Springs
  • Grand Junction
On-line training is available at www.colorado.gov/dmv as of May 16, 2016.  The on-site and computer training will cover the same topics and you can attend either one.  

The Title and Registration Section has worked with three counties: Denver, La Plata and Mesa to run a pilot issued program, beginning May 23, 2016.  The pilot program will prevent the counties from selling temporary permits to dealers in these counties on and after May 23.  If your dealership is located in Denver, La Plata or Mesa, please visit your county motor vehicle office prior to May 23, to ensure adequate temporary permits.

Dealers should begin issuance of the new temporary permits following the regional training.  This will allow for both dealers and counties to begin issuance of these temporary permits at the same time and allow for a staggered implementation around the state.

The new system will print the temporary permit and registration receipt at the dealership and upload all transactions performed to the department, law enforcement, tolling authorities, and parking authorities daily.

A dealership may designate anyone as an administrator.  The administrator will setup access for the sales staff and/or agents for the dealership.

Georgia Dealer and State Employee Arrested for Odometer Fraud

Roger Burnett, owner of Lifestyle Auto Broker LLC, and Amber McLaughlin, a customer service specialist for the Georgia Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Department, were arrested the first week of May, 2016.  They allegedly devised a scheme to purchase high-mileage vehicles from auctions in Maryland and Virginia, and then alter the odometers to reflect a lower mileage.  Burnett allegedly altered the mileage on the vehicles, while McLaughlin allegedly provided newly issued Georgia titles to match the tampered odometer numbers.

These vehicles were then sold through the auctions to other dealers between February 2012 and at least May 2013.  Burnett and McLaughlin were charged in a 25-count indictment with securities fraud, making false odometer statements, and conspiracy to commit these offenses, according to the Department of Justice.  They face up to 10 years in prison.
