Dear (Contact First Name),
How you ride your bike makes a bigger impression than you think on drivers and other cyclists. Here are some Road ID tips.
Happy to be Connecting You with Biking,
Pat, Jon, Derek, Drew, Evan, Scot, Kevin, Myron, Valerie
Rights:
  1. Cyclists have the same road rights and responsibilities as cars and motorcycles.
  2. Cyclists have the legal responsibility to obey all traffic laws.
  3. Cyclists have an ethical responsibility to be goodwill ambassadors for cycling.
  4. Consider bicycle advocacy organizations such as our own  INDYCOG.org or BikeLeague.org  or PeopleForBikes.org.
 Ramps:
  1. If you are traveling straight through an intersection be sure you are in the lane that goes straight. If there is a right turn only lane, avoid blocking the turn lane.
  2. Always look for drivers turning left hand across your path, especially at intersections. Don't assume a driver will yield to you, or that he or she will even see you.
  3. If you are turning left, you may legally turn from a left turn lane, just like drivers do.
  4. To safely cross a highway ramp, look back and make eye contact with any approaching drivers. Then, prior to crossing the ramp, signal appropriately and cross only when you see a safe opening in traffic.
Rage:
  1. Minimize the risk of conflict by following the rules of the road and riding safely and courteously.
  2. Do not run red lights or stop signs.
  3. Do not initiate conflict, and do not engage in conflict if someone attempts to initiate conflict with you.
  4. Stay calm if confronted.
  5. Report any attempted violence, threats of violence, or violence.
