Greetings!
Best way to describe this summer - too fast!
Sometimes you're the driver, sometimes you're the biker.
Here are tips from Road ID.
Happy to be Connecting You with Biking,
Pat, Jon, Derek, Drew, Evan, Scot, Kevin, Myron, Valerie
Drivers:
1. Cyclists are only required to ride as close to the right as is safe. Road surfaces and traffic conditions can look different to a cyclist than they do to a driver.
2. It is legal for cyclists to move from the right into the lane to avoid hazards like glass, potholes and debris, so please be patient.
3. When passing a cyclist, slow to a safe speed and give at least 3 feet of room when passing.
4. Do not speed past a cyclist in an effort to make an upcoming turn. It is easy to misjudge how fast cyclists are traveling.
5. Use your turn signals. Even if you don't see a cyclist, the cyclist will see you.
6. Don't text while driving.
 Bikers:
1. Ride where drivers can see you, not in their blind spot.
2. Make eye contact with a driver. This is an effective way to ensure your safety.
3. Ride in the right most lane of traffic.
4. Watch for oncoming vehicles when riding through an intersection. Cars may turn in front of you.
5. Avoid getting "doored". Ride outside of the door zone (~3ft), scan parked cars for a driver exiting, and slow your speed.
6. Wear your helmet.
As you know, Carmel Cyclery is a family owned shop. And you probably picked up on our philosophy: "We are here to help each other." The money you spend in locally owned businesses, stays in our community. So, we are featuring small business in our newsletters.  If you want us to feature your small business, please let me know.
