I've been listening to Pastor Joe Focht from Calvary Chapel Philadelphia on my smart phone.  He goes verse by verse and the whole bible is available on the app or website.  I have found that listening to the Word of God explained in the car is much better than talk radio!  See the link below.

Food for Thought...

I believe our nation is headed for very hard, even disastrous times.  I do not believe politics will fix our economy - it's too far gone - too much debt to ever pay back.  We depend completely on our fragile technological infrastructure for food, water, shelter, transportation, and entertainment.  Any number of events could cause a sudden  collapse of our system e.g., electric grid collapse from terrorism, natural event like solar flare, simple breakdown from lack of modernization, or Israel attacks Iran and the price of oil skyrockets, or China stops buying our treasury bonds.  I am feeling called to prepare for such disaster by working to be less dependent and more self-sufficient.  If you have interest in or questions about this line of thinking, please e-mail me by replying to this e-mail.  Below are some of my favorite links:

 Luke 10:2
2He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Jesus was sending 36 teams of two to reach the multitudes. These teams were not to try to do the job without help; rather, they were to ask God for more workers. Some people, as soon as they understand the gospel, want to go to work immediately contacting unsaved people. This story suggests a different approach: begin by mobilizing people to pray. And before praying for unsaved people, pray that other concerned disciples will join you in reaching out to them. In Christian service, there is no unemployment. God has work enough for everyone. Don't just sit back and watch others work-look for ways to help with the harvest.

                    Acts 20:1-6
1When the uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said goodbye and set out for Macedonia. 2He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece, 3where he stayed three months. Because some Jews had plotted against him just as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to go back through Macedonia. 4He was accompanied by Sopater son of Pyrrhus from Berea, Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy also, and Tychicus and Trophimus from the province of Asia. 5These men went on ahead and waited for us at Troas. 6But we sailed from Philippi after the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and five days later joined the others at Troas, where we stayed seven days.
Luke is writing this and pays careful attention to details.  (Like most doctors :0)  Those of you that have seen my workshop know that this attention to detail only goes so far for me!)  This makes the historicity of his account credible.  It's interesting to me how even the great Paul had some apparent uncertainty about what to do next.  At least it looks that way from the outside.  Sometimes he hung around long enough to get arrested or flogged, other times he took off.  We don't know how well he did at paying attention to God's will for him in all these details.  We know he wanted to, and that God's will was done in him even unto death.  We always have an idea in our own heads what God should want us to do and how to do it.  Often we find that circumstances don't line up with our ideas and what God seems to be doing with us doesn't make sense to us.  If our desire is to be in His will, to be in Him, then we can surrender and not worry about all the twists and turns.  The trouble comes for me when I want to straighten God out about how things should go, or how they should be done or even what should be done.  Lord change me, use me, move me, forgive me for getting in your way!
