I've been listening to Pastor Joe Focht from Calvary Chapel Philadelphia on my smart phone.  He goes verse by verse and the whole bible is available on the app or website.  I have found that listening to the Word of God explained in the car is much better than talk radio!  See the link below.

Food for Thought...

I believe our nation is headed for very hard, even disastrous times.  I do not believe politics will fix our economy - it's too far gone - too much debt to ever pay back.  We depend completely on our fragile technological infrastructure for food, water, shelter, transportation, and entertainment.  Any number of events could cause a sudden  collapse of our system e.g., electric grid collapse from terrorism, natural event like solar flare, simple breakdown from lack of modernization, or Israel attacks Iran and the price of oil skyrockets, or China stops buying our treasury bonds.  I am feeling called to prepare for such disaster by working to be less dependent and more self-sufficient.  If you have interest in or questions about this line of thinking, please e-mail me by replying to this e-mail.  Below are some of my favorite links:

 Luke 6:24
24 "But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.

If you are trying to find fulfillment only through riches, wealth may be the only reward you will ever get-and it does not last. We should not seek comfort now at the expense of eternal life.

                    Acts 18:9-17

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision:  "Do not be afraid;  keep on speaking, do not be silent. 10 For I am with you,  and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city." 11 So Paul stayed in Corinth for a year and a half, teaching them the word of God.

It's interesting that Paul apparently needed this bit of reassurance at this particular place and time.  God did not promise him freedom from physical harm in other places and times.  Sometimes our safety meets God's purpose for us and He will keep us safe.  Sometimes He does not keep us physically safe, again, consistent with His purpose for us.  What is His purpose?  We can't know in detail, but we do know He wants all His children to come to be His - to surrender to Him - to be saved.  We must remember that He is always with us, especially in times of suffering.  We must remember that this world is not where we belong.  We just need to bear with it, get through it, and look forward to the eternal joy and peace of Heaven where God's Love will sustain and fill us.  Meanwhile, remember also the Kingdom of God is here among us and there is work to do.  God does offer us many blessings here but nothing will compare to being in His presence in Heaven.  Surrender to Him.  Let the Holy Spirit fill you, strengthen you, and guide you.  Let go and let God work through you.

12 While Gallio was proconsul  of Achaia,  the Jews of Corinth made a united attack on Paul and brought him to the place of judgment. 13 "This man," they charged, "is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law."

14 Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to them, "If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. 15 But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law -settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things." 16 So he drove them off. 17 Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes  the synagogue leader

and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever.  Bad day for Sosthenes.  But maybe the best day ever because:
A person named Sosthenes is mentioned in 1Co_1:1, and many believe this was the same man who, in time, became a convert and a companion of Paul.
