Food for Thought...

I believe our nation is headed for very hard, even disastrous times.  I do not believe politics will fix our economy - it's too far gone - too much debt to ever pay back.  We depend completely on our fragile technological infrastructure for food, water, shelter, transportation, and entertainment.  Any number of events could cause a sudden  collapse of our system e.g., electric grid collapse from terrorism, natural event like solar flare, simple breakdown from lack of modernization, or Israel attacks Iran and the price of oil skyrockets, or China stops buying our treasury bonds.  I am feeling called to prepare for such disaster by working to be less dependent and more self-sufficient.  If you have interest in or questions about this line of thinking, please e-mail me by replying to this e-mail.  Below are some of my favorite links:

 Luke 4:3
The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God,  tell this stone to become bread."

Christ's defeat of the devil in the desert was decisive but not final. Throughout his ministry, Jesus would confront Satan in many forms. Too often we see temptation as once and for all. In reality, we need to be constantly on guard against the devil's ongoing attacks. Where are you most susceptible to temptation right now? How are you preparing to withstand it?

                    Acts 17:1-9

When Paul and his companions had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica,  where there was a Jewish synagogue. As was his custom, Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. "This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah," he said. Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas,

as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.  Like today, some who hear about Jesus accept Him as savior and Lord.  Others can not accept a Lord in their life that would interfere with their desires and plans, even to gain forgiveness, peace, purpose, and heaven.

But other Jews were jealous; so they rounded up some bad characters from the marketplace, formed a mob and started a riot in the city. They rushed to Jason's house in search of Paul and Silas in order to bring them out to the crowd.[a] But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some other believers before the city officials, shouting: "These men who have caused trouble all over the world have now come here, and Jason has welcomed them into his house. They are all defying Caesar's decrees, saying that there is another king, one called Jesus." When they heard this, the crowd and the city officials were thrown into turmoil. Then they made Jason

and the others post bond and let them go.  Isn't it interesting how people turn violent about Jesus.  Even now Christian's are being killed.  Why?  They are not physically threatening.  BECAUSE, the forces of evil know that Jesus is Light and Truth.  Jesus in the hearts of people destroys evil.  Demons cannot withstand His name.  They flee in His presence.  There is no power in heaven or on earth that can withstand the fire of His Love and Truth.  While Christians can be physically tortured and killed by people, like Jesus was, Satan knows he has lost their souls to the one true God.  Everything will be made Right in the end.
