Food for Thought...

I believe our nation is headed for very hard, even disastrous times.  I do not believe politics will fix our economy - it's too far gone - too much debt to ever pay back.  We depend completely on our fragile technological infrastructure for food, water, shelter, transportation, and entertainment.  Any number of events could cause a sudden  collapse of our system e.g., electric grid collapse from terrorism, natural event like solar flare, simple breakdown from lack of modernization, or Israel attacks Iran and the price of oil skyrockets, or China stops buying our treasury bonds.  I am feeling called to prepare for such disaster by working to be less dependent and more self-sufficient.  If you have interest in or questions about this line of thinking, please e-mail me by replying to this e-mail.  Below are some of my favorite links:

   Habbakuk 2:20

20 The Lord is in his holy temple;
    let all the earth be silent before him.

Idols have no life, no personhood, no power; they are empty chunks of wood or stone. Temples built to idols are equally empty; no one lives there. But the Lord is in his temple. He is real, alive, and powerful. He is truly and fully God. Idolaters command their idols to save them, but we who worship the living God come to him in silent awe, with great respect, and with reverence. We acknowledge that God is in control and knows what he is doing. Idols remain silent, because they cannot answer. The living God, by contrast, speaks through his Word. Approach God reverently and wait silently to hear what he has to say. I am not good at waiting or being quiet!!  Lord give me strength and wisdom to wait and listen to you.  Please.

 Acts 2: 42-47

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

We have a group of friends that love Jesus and care for each other in the way the early church did.  We're not perfect at it.  We don't eat together every day and we don't have everything in common.  We do have the most important thing in common - our faith in Jesus and our struggle to follow Him.  We don't all go to the same church and there's no official identity of our group.  We are meant to be in fellowship with other believers.  Not meant to isolate ourselves from non-believers, but to add to our numbers those being saved.  God will provide Christian fellowship if you seek it.  It is wonderful and life saving.  God used our friends to save our marriage a couple years ago and today we're enjoying a great time in Baltimore celebrating our 25th anniversary.  To God be the glory!!
