Food for Thought...

I believe our nation is headed for very hard, even disastrous times.  I do not believe politics will fix our economy - it's too far gone - too much debt to ever pay back.  We depend completely on our fragile technological infrastructure for food, water, shelter, transportation, and entertainment.  Any number of events could cause a sudden  collapse of our system e.g., electric grid collapse from terrorism, natural event like solar flare, simple breakdown from lack of modernization, or Israel attacks Iran and the price of oil skyrockets, or China stops buying our treasury bonds.  I am feeling called to prepare for such disaster by working to be less dependent and more self-sufficient.  If you have interest in or questions about this line of thinking, please e-mail me by replying to this e-mail.  Below are some of my favorite links:

           Proverbs 15:28

28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.

The righteous weigh their answers; the wicked don't wait to speak because they don't care about the effects of their words. It is important to have something to say, but it is equally important to weigh it first. Do you carefully plan your words, or do you pour out your thoughts without concern for their impact?

                 John 8:1-11

1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.   (If Jesus said let her go they would accuse Him of not following the Law that Moses gave, If He said to stone her, they would turn Him in to the Romans who did not allow Jews to execute anyone.  Also, the man involved was not brought before Jesus.  The law demanded that two witnesses catch adulterers in the act, not an easy thing to do.  It is likely that the religious leaders set this woman up to be caught so they could trap Jesus.)
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.  7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"11 "No one, sir," she said.  "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Our God is a God of perfect justice.  He loves us.  He wants us to choose a life where we follow Him and get Joy, Love, and Peace from Him, not from our human desires.  Our lives are His work. If we let Him shape and mold us He will make us into a masterpiece.
