Booth Western Art Museum

ArtSS members and guests were offered a private tour of the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville on Saturday, November 13, 2010, by the Executive Director, Seth Hopkins.  ArtSS President, Jerry Stapleton, said the tour was sensational, and the museum itself is magnificent.

The Booth Museum's permanent collection contains Western art, Civil War art, Presidential letters and portraits.  The Sage Brush Ranch is a fun, hands-on place for children and their parents to play and learn.  One of the special and temporary exhibit galleries is featuring Ansel Adams:  A Legacy - showcasing more than 100 photographs by the famed landscape photographer. Visit the museum's website for more information.

Sandy Springs Festival

Hundreds of people stopped by the ArtSS booth at the Sandy Springs Festival which was held on September 25th & 26th.  Volunteers enjoyed talking with visitors about our display, Taxi, the limestone, cedar & cypress goat sculpture by Chris Condon, that was one of the ten finalists of the ArtSS in the Open contest.  After viewing our colorful banners and listening to classical music, nearly 50 people signed up to receive information about becoming members.

Public Presentation of Sculptures & ArtSS Proclamation

The Mayor of Sandy Springs, Eva Galambos, declared October 2, 2010 to be ArtSandySprings Appreciation Day in Sandy Springs.  The mayor spoke to those attending the public unveiling of the ten 2010 Arts in the Open Sculpture Contest finalists. The Proclamation, signed by the Mayor, "thanks ArtSS for their work in making Sandy Springs a beautiful City of the Arts by providing opportunities for the arts to thrive for the enrichment and enjoyment of all who live, work and play in Sandy Springs."  The ten sculptures will be on display for twelve months on the grounds of the Sandy Springs Branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, 395 Mount Vernon Highway.  Artss donated the winning sculpture, Spooky Tooth, by Andrew Crawford, to the City of Sandy Springs. The remaining nine pieces can be purchased by contacting ArtSS.

The winner, Andrew Crawford, talked about the creation of his sculpture, Spooky Tooth.  Also on hand to provide musical entertainment was Justin Nash, from North Springs High School, and the Riverwood (High School) String Trio.

Membership

Lisa Harber, Stan & Ruth Mogelnicki, and Joan Pinkus have recently joined ArtSS.  We are pleased to have them with us!  Encourage your art loving friends and neighbors who are not yet members to join!  We want to grow our membership to further enhance our support of the arts in Sandy Springs.

ArtSS is fast approaching membership renewal time.  This is your first reminder!  Letters will go out to all of you slightly earlier than last year to remind you to send in your renewal.  A pre-addressed envelope will be included.  We want to give you the opportunity to send it in and have it recorded before the end of the year, if the deduction will help you with your taxes.  We hope to have 100% renewal by January 30th.

Please help us attain this goal!  Send your renewal to Art Sandy Springs, c/o Sherry Bergmark, P.O. Box 76025, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.  You may also renew online through our website.
