 Greetings!

One touch of nature... makes all the world kin...William Shakespeare

There's plenty of excitement on the streets of Sandy Springs!   We exceeded our expectations with the overwhelming community support and record attendance at ArtSSpring '09.   Our spring calendar was filled with events of music, theater, literature, art exhibits, culinary adventures, and even our own local talent show, ShowStoppers --all for our community to enjoy.

And, now ArtSS has even more exciting plans and events slated for the fall.  From planters gracing our sidewalks to providing a quiet place for meditation at the new Library Reading Garden, ArtSS is committed to its efforts to beautify our streets and bring art and culture alive in the heart of our city.  Take a moment to review our progress and check out our plans for the upcoming season

Caribbean Breeze Highlights
Our Caribbean Breeze became a Tropical Depression.....but not to worry
copious rain certainly did not dampen the spirits of ArtSS Lovers!! Just asLynne and Leonard the rain came down, our attendance grew. Approximately 175 individuals danced through raindrops to  "Catch a Caribbean Breeze in the Garden" at the lovely home and gardens of Jean Paul and Bernadine Richard.  Chef Rob's Caribbean Cafe hit the mark and wowed the palates of  Bernadinethe guests with his authentic West Indian/Caribbean cuisine and splendid presentation. Entertainment by Kevin
'KalimbaMan' Spears and 'ASIKA' was "mesmerizing" and gave a gentle feeling of the tropics!

Caribbean Breeze was a successful membership drive event, providing a venue of warmth and exciting entertainment for friends and family to gather.  Consequently, we look forward to adding this event to our annual ArtSSpring calendar.  Special thanks to our event sponsor, TRU Music Group, LLC, and to the Richards for so graciously opening their home to the community of Sandy Springs.

The Planters Are Coming!
plants going into planters Interested in leaving your mark towards beautifying the streets of Sandy Springs?  It's easier than you might think.  Planters donated by various community sponsors will soon be gracing our city's streets thanks to an agreement reached with the Sandy Springs Fire Stations who will keep these planters watered and fertilized.

All summer long, colorful flowers will be blooming in large planters along our city streets.  The City of Sandy Springs has been extremely helpful in assisting with this project.  So watch for vibrant colors coming to life when Gordon Anderson and Lisa Dickerson, master gardeners, begin filling these planters with summer blooms and greenery!  A word of thanks to Mayor Eva Galambos and City officials who have been extremely helpful to make this project come alive!  If interested in sponsoring a planter with a plaque noting your contribution, please contact Cynthia Swann at cswann@mindspring.com or Bernadine Richard at jpbr2@bellsouth.net.

Library Reading Garden
Library Reading Garden
Library Garden volunteer day Sssssh!  There's actually a quiet place not too far from the hustle and bustle of our city streets awaiting you.  Thanks to the sponsorship of ArtsSS and other donors, our city's residents now have a place to take a stroll, meditate in a lovely setting during a lunch break, or bring a child to meander along the path at the Library Reading Garden.

There are so many to thank for this on-going effort:  the Magnolia Garden Club for purchasing three Little Gem magnolias;  the Sandy Springs Garden Club for purchasing a wide assortment and hearty variety of plants;  Candace Apple, of Phoenix and Dragon Bookstore, for purchasing a garden bench in her mother's honor; and Leadership Sandy Springs for lending volunteer support in the spring for clearing paths for the walkways.  And, a special word of appreciation to Fulton County General Services for clearing the property, planting the plants, and helping with weed control.   The upcoming date for the Garden's dedication will be announced shortly.  For now, stop by the Sandy Springs Library and stroll the path of this precious treasure: our community garden.
