 Greetings!new years eve party people

Happy New Year to ArtSS!
It's a perfect time to reflect on the accomplishments of our grassroots efforts of beautifying and enhancing our community of Sandy Springs and to chart the course for 2009!  Here is just a sample of our accomplishments, opportunities and long-term goals of ArtSS.
What We Accomplished in 2008!
*We're Live! ---- View our new website - www.artsandysprings.org to see what's in store for 2009!

*Looking for a Place to Mediatate:  The plan for the design of the new Library Reading Garden at the Fulton County/Sandy Springs Library has been drawn by landscape architect, Jim Cothran.   Fulton County is to be commended for committing to this project and completing all the prep work for the grounds.
If you would like to contribute or dedicate a tree in memory or celebration of a special person, please email Laura Jones - [email protected].  Our goal is to have completed the planting this winter, and the garden will be ready this spring for the community to enjoy!

*Cool Jazz with Friends!  Record attendance at the Complimentary Wine and Cocktail Buffet!  This event was held at the Broadway Grill and Cabaret on Thursday, December 18, for our members to celebrate the success of the ArtSS IN THE OPEN sculpture event and pay special tribute to David Landis, whose sculpture TUMBLE won The People's Choice competition. A special word of thanks to the Broadway Grill and Cabaret for the delicious food and perfect setting for a lively evening. Also compliments to Gary Larramore for the music and to Jan Collins, Joan Plunkett, and Carol Green for planning such a special evening.

*Exciting News on Upcoming Spring Event:    Beginnings and Endings (and life in between) - Join us when the Georgia Tech choirs present a concert of choral music on Sunday, April 19, 2009 in a program titled "Beginnings & Endings (and life in between)."  The concert will feature The Georgia Tech Chorale and GT Chamber Choir, both under the direction of choral director Jerry Ulrich. This free concert, will be held in the sanctuary of St. John United Methodist Church at 550 Mt Paran Road AT 4 p.m.
 Our Goals for 2009!

*Obtain Grants for ArtSS Funding Needs:  Is there a  "Grant-Writing Volunteer"  among us?   Apply now!  ArtSS needs to begin its efforts to apply for grants from the County, various foundations, and other "arts-related" organizations.  Such grant applications for "start up" cities like Sandy Springs are available, and we need to follow every lead in order to obtain such funding.  Funding though grants for our organization will be necessary in light of our current economic environment.

Planter
*Want to help beautify the Streets of Sandy Springs?  How can you help us reach such a lofty goal....one planter after another!  Imagine large floral containers gracing the sidewalks of Roswell Road.  You can be among the first to help this ongoing effort by purchasing a beautiful, handcrafted planter with an engraved plaque to acknowledge a special person or organization. Contact Bernadine Richard at [email protected] for more details.

*Mark your calendars now for April 18 and 19!  ArtSS is sponsoring its first major fundraiser, The Magic of ArtSS.   This fabulous spring event is being held in conjunction with the The Marcus Autism Center for the purpose of raising funds and enriching children's lives through art.  More information to follow in the coming weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to checkout this email letter and our new web site.

Looking forward to a great year of the ARTSS!

Sincerely,
Bernadine Richard and Peggy Stapleton
