 | Earlier this summer Kimball Hill School hosted Camp Invention, a nationally recognized, nonprofit elementary enrichment program backed by the National Inventors Hall of Fame. During this weeklong summer STEM education camp, 58 students made bionic eyes, built pinball machines, assembled motorized vehicles, designed morphed species, and created their own inventions to display at the camp's culminating event, the Friday afternoon Inventor's Showcase.

District 15 to issue new PINs for student meal purchases
This year, all students who use the District's Mealtime program to purchase their breakfasts and lunches will be issued new personal identification numbers (PINs).
In fact, the new PINs will be the students' six-digit District ID numbers, which can be found on their teacher assignment sheets that will be mailed home this month.
Parents are encouraged to review these numbers with their children before school begins, as students who purchase their lunches will be required to enter their new PINs on a keypad at the end of the serving line. (Staff will be available to help students who need assistance.)
This change will help the District implement a new version of its Mealtime program in November. The new, improved, web-based program will feature touch-screen monitors, and it will be more efficient and better suited for the District's needs.
Although the Mealtime PINs and program are set to change, the procedures for purchasing a lunch or breakfast will not. Students' accounts will continue to be automatically debited and their new balances will continue to be shown after they enter their PINs at the end of the serving line. Parents will still be able to make deposits to their children's accounts through Mealtime's online system, too, and the new system will reflect those payments just minutes after parents complete their transactions. Mealtime will still charge a convenience fee for deposits made online, as well, and parents will still have the option to send payments via check or cash directly to the schools their children attend.
For more information, contact School Nutrition Services at 847-963-3929.

Foundation to sell 'Palatine-opoly' at Downtown Streetfest 2014
What better place to buy the District Fifteen Educational Foundation's "Palatine-opoly" board game than at Downtown Palatine Streetfest 2014? Foundation supporters, board game enthusiasts, and Palatine residents who love their hometown will be able to do so this year by visiting the Foundation's booth at Streetfest, which will be held August 22-24 in downtown Palatine. In fact, during Streetfest, the Foundation will be selling "Palatine-opoly" at the discount price of $20 (games normally sell for $25). Just like in the classic board game, "Palatine-opoly" players can purchase real estate as they make their way around and around the game board. In "Palatine-opoly," though, the real estate they buy will be the beloved local businesses, community institutions, and historic landmarks that surround the annual summer festival. Those local businesses and other Foundation supporters graciously covered the cost of creating the game, meaning that all proceeds from "Palatine-opoly" purchases will benefit the Foundation. For more information, visit www.ccsd15.net | Foundation, or contact Donna Kennedy, District Fifteen Educational Foundation coordinator, at 847-963-3160 or kennedyd@ccsd15.net.

Prior to their graduation in June, four District 15 eighth graders were awarded the District Fifteen Educational Foundation's Keep Music Strong Scholarships. These $150 scholarships are funded each year by Dr. Gerry Aylward, a local orthodontist and multi-talented musician, to provide instruments and/or music lessons for a student at each of District 15's four junior highs. The 2013-14 recipients of the Keep Music Strong Scholarships are: - Abigail Amato from Walter R. Sundling Junior High
- Shruthi Kumar from Plum Grove Junior High
- Logan Werling from Carl Sandburg Junior High
- Abigail Zuercher from Winston Campus Junior High

District 15's 'Got2Run' participants raise more than $6,000 for their schools
Once again, District 15 showed up in full force for the Northwest Road Runners' "Got2Run ... for Education" Run/Walk to Benefit Wellness in School Children. The third annual event was held May 17 in Arlington Heights, and a quarter of the participants -- 445 of the 1,773 registered runners -- represented District 15 schools. Their efforts raised more than $6,000 ($13.50 per runner), all of which the District Fifteen Educational Foundation returned to the runners' respective schools. The "Got2Run ... for Education" is hosted each year by the Northwest Road Runners, Inc., a local, nonprofit running club established to organize a run/walk to raise money for schools and promote wellness in children. Its goal is to get kids and their parents interested in running as a healthy lifestyle choice. A portion of the proceeds from "Got2Run ... for Education" benefit schools supported by the District Fifteen Educational Foundation, which has promoted participation in this event since it originated in 2012. Over the past three years, 763 Foundation supporters have participated in "Got2Run," raising approximately $10,000 for District 15 schools. This year, representatives from all 20 District 15 schools took part in the race, which offered two distances for them to choose from: a 2.62-mile "Micro Marathon" run/walk, and an 8K (4.97-mile) run. Frank C. Whiteley School and its running club continued to turn out a large number of participants -- 145 in all. Last year, more than 100 students, siblings, parents, and teachers from Whiteley participated in the event after training for seven weeks to run in the race. Additionally, 112 runners represented Pleasant Hill School, and 64 represented Plum Grove Junior High. Lincoln School and Winston Campus Elementary each turned out 31 runners.
