"I'm lucky to have a mother who encourages me to go to school. My mother says, "Education is the key of life and means everything in this world."

-Annah Angeth Awan, Form 1, Melek Secondary School

Annah is a lucky girl since most girls in her Dinka culture are not encouraged by their mothers to go to school. Dinka girls have a bride price that can bring many cows and wealth to a family, so early arranged marriage is the norm. Annah was accepted at a private secondary school far from her home on a scholarship thanks to She's The First and Project Education South Sudan.

Annah is a brave girl with a brave mother. Mother & Daughter have the strength and determination to work together to secure Annah's future.

This Mother's Day, make your mother proud by sponsoring a girl.$365 dollars or $1 a day can sponsor other bright girls like Annah.
Annah's mother is a part of a group of women and girls in the village of Pagook who are learning to sew feminine hygiene sanitary pads and learning about HIV/AIDS thanks to Project Education South Sudan's Student and Female leadership programs being implemented in 2013-14. School absenteeism has decreased due to girls being able to stay in school during menses by wearing a re-usable, washable sanitary pad.

Give a mother and daughter a chance to be empowered. Celebrate Mother's Day by giving the gift of education and vocational sewing skills. It goes a long way. It gives girls and women the opportunity to learn a skill and learn a business so they can feel empowered and proud of themselves.

$25 dollars - buys one woman or girl thread, needles, scissors, snaps and fabric for sewing 10 sanitary pads.
