Ollie's Offerings

When I worked as a college chaplain several years ago in Arkansas I had the privilege of offering a prayer of dedication over a newly constructed residence hall. The Dean of Students told me following the ceremony, "get used to offering more of these prayers and seeing lots of construction equipment and red clay because things on this campus are always being built." He was right. I went back to visit Lyon College this Spring and the campus does not look today like it did twenty years ago! His advice about always being "under construction" has remained helpful to me throughout my ministry because change has indeed been a constant in my life!

Upon the retirement of Kelly Edwards from the position of Director of Youth Ministry, the session has authorized the formation of a search committee to seek a new Director and named APC member, Lisa Gould, as our Temporary Coordinator of Youth Ministry. Lisa will be working to assure that our programs and publicity for youth ministry continue as planned. We have great teachers, advisors, families and youth who are pulling together through this transition! You can reach Lisa by email: youth@alpharettapres.com. As we thank Lisa for helping us out in this transition, let us keep all of our youth and their leaders in our prayers. As the position is advertised locally and throughout the presbytery, let us also be in prayer for our search committee as they meet candidates. We trust that exciting things are ahead.

Solomon was most wise in his observation about life, "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to seek, and a time to lose, a time weep and a time to laugh, a time to tear and a time to sew...." Through the constancy of change, let us lean upon God's eternal arms as we wait in hope for what shall be.

New Deadline
The new deadline for submission of announcements for the bulletin and The Good News has been changed to Tuesday at noon. Please send them to communications@alpharettapres.com.

Weekend of Service

Our fall Weekend of Service is October 5 and October 6.  On Saturday, October 5, we will have the opportunity once again to participate in the sorting of medical supplies at MedSharewww.medshare.org, at 1 pm.  For more information and the link to sign up for this effort, go to our website at www.alpharettapres.com/mission. Also, on Sunday, October 6, we will be making soup packets in Fellowship Hall for NFCC immediately after the 11:00 service.  In addition, we will also be sorting items listed below for Haiti Partnership.

Help us collect lightweight items for projects at Holy Innocents Church, Ticotelette, La Gonāve, Haiti. Projects include sewing small dolls and dresses for children, a birth kit for deliveries, and health day. We need reading glasses, toothbrushes, small bars of soap and sewing supplies. Place them in the bin in the lobby for sorting during our Day of Service Sunday, October 6 after the 11:00 service in the Fellowship Hall.

Youth Ministry News

Middle School Youth Group meets this Sunday, October 6 at APC from 5:30-7:30 pm for Unplugged. Please bring $4 for dinner.

F.I.S.H. (Fellowship in Someone's Home), is a new and exciting part of Youth Ministry for High School students. The first Sunday of every month they will meet at someone's home for youth group. The host will provide the main course for dinner and students should bring a side dish, dessert or drinks.  High School students will meet from 6:00-8:00 pm. This allows parents with middle school students to drop off and pick them up from church for Youth Group from 5:30-7:30 pm. This Sunday, October 6, FISH will be held at the Gould Home, 1375 Mayfield Manor Drive, Alpharetta GA 30005.  ALL High School students are encouraged to attend and bring a friend!!!

Youth Ministry needs YOU!!! Every Sunday night at youth group volunteers serve dinner to the youth. This is a time for students to relax, fellowship and share a meal together.  It is a crucial part of the ministry that needs your help by serving dinner.  Chef Doug does all the prep work and leaves instructions for preparing the meal, so it is super easy and fun.  It is also a great way to meet the students at APC!  If you are a part of a ministry that is not involved with youth, this is be a great way for your team, Sunday School Class or small group to serve. Parents can sign up as well.  Please contact Wendy Curl at wmcurl@comcast.net.  Thank you so much!

If you are not a part of the APC Youth Group Facebook page, please friend request. We will be using Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and email to communicate about youth events and activities. Parents, please check Access ACS to be sure your email is current.
