Ollie's Offerings
This Sunday we'll be recognizing our graduating seniors. Those soon-to-be high school graduates will be venturing forth into adulthood and we send them with our prayers and love. As their home church pauses to remember their maturity in our midst and give thanks for the many ways they have contributed to our lives, we are reminded that change is one of life's constants. As we honor their hard-earned accomplishment, we will be reminded of other transitions we and love ones have made or will make. Our lives are composed of chapters which bring both necessary endings and new beginnings.
The Christians in Philippi were charged by the Apostle Paul to give thanks for what was and "press on" and "strain ahead" in pursuit of the call of Christ. Whatever stage or decade of life we find ourselves in, there are opportunities and challenges before us that keep us growing, learning and serving. Families have their stages of development as do churches, communities and nations.
APC is composed of empty-nesters, recently divorced persons, newlyweds, infants, retirees, new hires, long-time residents and folks who have just unloaded a moving van. In each of the stages and transitions of life we can claim the constant and faithful companionship of God. Though we are a community composed of many ages and various experiences, we are also blessed to have the opportunity to support and befriend one another.
It isn't easy to navigate through all of life's inevitable changes. Fortunately, we aren't alone! We are a part of a community of faith that rejoices with those who rejoice and weeps with those who weep. "Love is a magician" Hugh Prather wrote, "whereby two people can go in different directions yet always remain side by side."

Save the Date! Family Promise Host Week June 16 - 23
Our second Family Promise Host Week is right around the corner and we will once again be calling on the generous servants at APC as we turn our Alpha and Omega buildings into a week-long shelter for families experiencing homelessness.
All volunteers who work with our families are required to participate in a volunteer training session. We have two scheduled in May. The first will be Tuesday, May 14, from 7pm - 8:30pm and the second will be Thursday, May 23, from 10am - 11:30am. Sign ups are available via the APC Family Promise Site, or on the mission bulletin board outside Fellowship Hall. Stay tuned for more details about volunteer and donation needs during our host week.
Comedy Night at St. James UMC to benefit Family Promise

Adult CE Survey
APC's Adult Christian Education Committee is reviewing our current offerings of classes and opportunities to determine what changes we need to make for the coming year. To this end, we request your help. We have prepared a brief survey and request that you complete it and submit it to us. Neither your name or email address will be submitted; only your answers. Thank you for your willingness to participate and help us improve the Christian Education program for adults of all ages at APC. |
Haiti Mission Trip
Mark your calendar now and prepare to be challenged and blessed on a Mission Trip to Haiti and the nearby island of La Gonāve. On this Adult Mission Trip, September 20-26, 2013, we will fly to Port-au-Prince and the following day, take a ferry to La Gonāve. There we will meet fellow Haitian Christians in the small rural community of Ticotelette. A year ago, three APC members visited and felt called to the needs of this specific community. Upon their return, they recommended that we partner with the church and school of Holy Innocents in this place. Since then several exciting things have happened to make a real difference in the lives of our sister church. APC mission funds are now starting to pay teachers' salaries so children up to grade 6 can get an education. The generous gifts from our APC Alternative Christmas fair provided funds to repair the damaged cistern. Once again the cistern can capture and hold rain water so children can have water during school hours. Also, an APC donor provided a motorcycle so the principal will now have a 2 hour commute instead of an 8 hour walking commute. We will meet and build relationships with fellow Christians in Ticotelette and also undertake several hands on projects together during our trip. Youth age 14 and older accompanied by a parent are invited to join us. Trip cost will be around $1,200 to $1,300. APC member Sydney Schneider will lead the trip. For questions/sign-up, contact Sydney Schneider at 770-664-0942 or Link for impressions from APC's Oct. 2012 trip and other partnership activities. Stay tuned for the first introductory meeting in May when you can learn more so that you can decide if God is calling you to this place at this time. |
Sunday Flowers
The 2013 Flower Donation Chart is now up! APC members and friends are invited to donate flowers to beautify our sanctuary on Sunday mornings. The flowers may be placed in memory or honor of loved ones, or to mark a special occasion such as an anniversary, birthday or baptism. As many as three donors may participate on any given Sunday. The cost for each donor is $65. Our deacons take the flowers to homebound members after the service. The Flower Donation Chart is located outside the church office. Please complete a yellow form when you sign up and return it with your check to the church office. |
