Greetings!
Surprise, surprise - to me! Even though the Big 6-0 was last month, on the 18th of this month, dear friends threw me a surprise birthday party. I am still in awe and basking in the love...
And, I truly was surprised even though the main organizer emailed me by mistake about some details. But we had previously planned an evening of 4 close friends, so I just figured we were going to celebrate my birthday a bit more than we had last month; I was touched. But the true surprise had not been revealed: other friends gathering together (physically and otherwise) to celebrate and honor me. Wow. So that night, upon arriving at my friend's house, beautifully decorated and even spying some gifts, I wasn't suspicious of a larger plan. But then... well, I walked around the bend, from the living room to the kitchen, and "Surprise!" What a moment.
I think every person deserves at least one surprise birthday party in their lifetime! All the effort, time, scheming, generosity, and love that goes into pulling off such an event is quite the demonstration that you make a difference on the planet, that you are thought of, and cared for, and loved. I was, and am, so touched... so grateful... so blessed by the people in my life.
I hope you realize - even without having a surprise party in your honor - that you DO make a difference in this world, and our lives are richer for it. Thank you.
Blessings,

Spiritual/Personal
Connected Through "Over the Rainbow"
Singing has always been my way to connect to Spirit - even when I was a devout atheist... I just didn't know it! Music truly is a universal language and singing together is a great, easy, powerful way to feel connected to others, to Spirit, and to heal.
In this recent video, on a blasé winter Monday morning in Perth, Australia, commuters bound for their jobs and the day-to-day grind connected with one another through singing and had some early morning fun. It wasn't about having a great voice. And you didn't need to sing to be able to feel 'a part of' and be uplifted.
These types of occurrences always go straight to my heart and bring tears to my eyes... Each is an example of how we can connect, be kind, helpful, cooperative, and loving in simple ways - and virtually anywhere.
Enjoy!

People Helping People
Save One Life, Save the World
Nicholas Winton, a Briton who said nothing for a half-century about his role in organizing the escape of 669 mostly Jewish children from Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II, a righteous deed like those of Oskar Schindler and Raoul Wallenberg, died July 1st in Maidenhead, England. He was 106.
It was only after Mr. Winton's wife found a scrapbook in the attic of their home in 1988 - a dusty record of names, pictures and documents detailing a story of redemption from the Holocaust - that he spoke of his all-but-forgotten work in the deliverance of children who, like the parents who gave them up to save their lives, were destined for Nazi concentration camps and extermination.
For all his ensuing honors and accolades in books and films, Mr. Winton was a reluctant hero, often compared to...

Spam. Spam. And More Spam.
Tips to start reducing the spam messages you receive
Do you ever dread opening your inbox, knowing that 90% of what's there is probably junk mail? You're not alone. Billions of spam messages were sent in 2014. Yes, billions.
Why do people send this electronic nonsense? Do they just like tormenting us?
Some may simply do it for kicks, but basically it's a numbers game to spammers. If one spammer sends 10 million spam messages, and only 1% answers, that's 100,000 responses in his hands. Those are fantastic returns in his eyes, but plenty annoying to the rest of us, especially when you have to sift through this junk mail every day.
So how can you get rid of your spam? Reducing the amount isn't easy, but it can be done. Here are some tips to help: - Create an address reserved for potential email harvesters.
- If you don't recognize the sender, don't open the email!
- Keep your anti-spam protection up to date.

Website Development/WordPress
No One Is Immune to Hacks
Wordfence is a small company that is passionate about software engineering and dedicated to protecting intellectual property. I use the free version of their security plugin. Read what they had to say when a Microsoft site dedicated to fighting the U.S. government on matters of policy and surveillance was hacked last month.
No one is immune to hacks. It doesn't matter if you are a small business with 10 employees or a huge business with 10,000 employees. This was proven again when this past Wednesday the Microsoft site, digitalconstitution.com, was found to contain numerous spam pages and links in its website. The site, according to zdnet, was running an older version of WordPress which made it susceptible to the attack. This should also serve as a sobering reminder to all of us.
When was the last time you looked at the plugins you were using on your site? How about your themes? Do you really need all of them? Are there any just sitting there, not updated and disabled? Many of the exploits and hacks that happen today to WordPress sites are a direct result of ...

We're slipping into the month of August, and here in Arizona, kids go back to school starting next week. I've still not gotten used to that notion even though it's almost 19 years since I left the Big Apple and the east coast for the Southwest. Back east, school starts in September after Labor Day (it ends in June, while in AZ it ends in May). And listening to the oldie (but goodie) "See You in September" doesn't make it any easier to make the shift. Enjoy the music - and, I'll see you in August!
Yours in Spirit,

Joyce "came to believe" in a Power greater than herself about 25 years ago. Thanks to hearing the novel idea that one could choose their own concept of God - and name too - and the workings of synchronicity, Joyce embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. Since that time of commencing her conscious spiritual journey, she has endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom she meets, and all that she does - including working with others and helping to empower them as she provides solutions for their computer projects and business and marketing needs.
