Inspiration & Contemplation
"Choose to love and make others happy, and your life will change, because you will find happiness and love in the process. The first step towards inner peace is to decide to give love, not receive it." - Bernie S. Siegel

Vol. 3, Issue 8 | August 2014
|
 |
This past Tuesday, August 26, 2014 marked 18 years since I moved out of the Big Apple - where I was born and raised - and relocated to the Southwest, my first time residing in another locale in all my 41 years. It's also 20 years since I quit the NY corporate world and enrolled full-time at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. Having a desire to get out of the big city for many years, when I graduated in '96, I figured that before I started my new career, I'd better leave. It's quite interesting that I left, because my life was so rich and meaningful there. But I felt that if I didn't make the move then, I'd never make it. I feel it was a privilege to grow up in New York, a city like no other. And, I'm so glad I hit the road! It's been quite the adventure, living first in rural Taos, NM, going from a city of 8 million people to 4,000 - not a big change. Ha! I lasted there 7 months, then 7 years in Santa Fe. I was most grateful to leave NM and relocate to Phoenix, buying a nice little home in the East Valley town of Gilbert. The population increased from 150,000 to 200,000 in the 6 years I lived there. And now I am delighted to call beautiful Sedona home, where I will soon mark 5 years of living here. Of course, many other changes have transpired in addition to the physical relocations. After all, life is about change, and as the time flies by, will continue to be so. Where will the next 18 years on Life's Journey take me?... Blessings,

Spiritual/Personal
POSI Music I enjoy listening to and singing music that has life-affirming lyrics, where I get connected and feel inspired. A number of years ago I was introduced to "New Thought" music through emPower Music & Arts, a community dedicated to creating positive global change through music, writing and the spoken word. Among their many offerings, they host a nationally recognized event called the emPower Posi Music Festival. Recently, out of curiosity, I googled "Posi" and learned that Posi Music has been around since the 1940s though only recently has a definitive label been applied to music in this genre. Short for "Positive Music," Posi Music is categorized by its intention to have a positive effect on the listener. Musicians who write and perform Posi Music profess a desire for their music to unite and inspire their audience and make them feel better. One of the earliest 100% Positive Songs was "Accentuate the Positive" written by Johnny Mercer and made famous by Bing Crosby. Some of my favorite contemporary Posi singers and song writers are Daniel Nahmod, Karen Drucker, Rickie Byars Beckwith, and David Ault. You can sample some of their music by clicking on each of the links above. Check them out - you may understand why singing is often prayer for me.

General Computer
I Couldn't Resist!
Since my life is very much about Spirit and computers, I couldn't resist sharing this story with you. You may even find it provides a solution that works for you when having a challenging tech day! Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer."- Psalm 4:1 (NIV) My friend, who lives in another state, phoned me on the eve of her husband's surgery. She was calling for prayer...for her computer! My friend works from home, and her computer kept freezing up, even though a technician had spent five hours installing a new drive. "There's work I have to get done before my husband's surgery," she said. "I'm desperate!" "You've called the right person," I told her. What I didn't say is that I'd never prayed with anybody about getting a computer to start working. But my friend needed help, so I told her to...

Website Development/WordPress
PayPal Buttons and WordPress
In some instances, PayPal coding doesn't work correctly when pasted into WordPress. The issue is attributed to WordPress' Visual Editor: it tries to 'correct' the code, sometimes dependent on the theme. When I pasted the code for a PayPal button with a drop-down list in the Text Editor, the list initially looked correct in the Visual Editor and on the front end. But once I went back to the Visual Editor a 2nd time, it looked like this: There are two ways I've learned about (so far) as to how to work around this issue: 1. Disable the Visual Editor - you change this under the User Profile. This means working solely in the Text Editor, the code view, which can be uncomfortable for some folks. However, after I did my work and once again enabled the Visual Editor, the code got changed, and the drop-down list was no longer behaving. So it seems you'd have to disable the Visual Editor forever for that particular user! 2. Use the TinyMCE Advanced plugin. This plugin is pretty nifty to start off with for it lets you add, remove and arrange the buttons that are shown on the Visual Editor toolbar. In this case, you want to go to the toolbar's Tool menu, and choose <>Source Code. A window will open and that is where you paste the code. Once I saved my work, I tested and retested. Voila! It works beautifully.

Joyce "came to believe" in a Power greater than herself about 24 years ago. Thanks to hearing the novel idea that one could choose their own concept of God - and name too - and the workings of synchronicity, Joyce embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. Since that time of commencing her conscious spiritual journey, she has endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom she meets, and all that she does - including working with others and their computer and marketing projects!
