Drop Shadow Accent Image

Greetings of the season!

I did not grow up in a home in which Christmas was celebrated; in fact, there were very few traditions or rituals practiced. However, most of my friends celebrated Christmas - a little bit in a religious sense, but mostly in the way that youngsters are prone to, with gift shopping, wrapping, and giving; tree decorating; baking; and, partying. As for me, an atheist, I just loved the music, joy, and fun of the holiday. As I grew older, I came to see Christmas as a time of celebrating friendship, love, and joy - a time of year when people seemed kinder, gentler, more loving, more giving. People seemed more connected to one another as human beings.

Since coming to believe in a Power greater than myself and studying various spiritual literature, I have come to learn and embrace the idea of the Christ within, the divinity inherent in each one of us. "Christ" is the Greek version of the Hebrew word meaning "messiah" or "savior." "Christ" is not a name but the identification of a potentiality in man that Jesus discovered and released.  It makes no never mind what religion one has or doesn't - the Christ is a concept that's universal. And, the Christ Light shines within.

At this time of year, the outer light is a focal point of Chanukah, the Winter Solstice, and Christmas. And, more importantly, we are reminded of the Christ Light within that is present not just at this time of year, but always.

Blessings,

Christmas at the Gas Station

Here is a story about the true meaning of Christmas, to me - and something for each of us to aspire to every day in how we live and treat one another.

The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve. He hadn't been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away. It was just another day to him. He didn't hate Christmas, just couldn't find a reason to celebrate. He was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened and a homeless man stepped through.

Instead of throwing the man out, Old George, as he was known by his customers, told the man to come and sit by the heater and warm up. "Thank you, but I don't mean to intrude," said the stranger. "I see you're busy, I'll just go."

"Not without something hot in your belly." George said, decisively.

He turned and opened a wide mouth Thermos and handed it to the stranger. "It ain't much, but it's hot and tasty. Stew ... made it myself. When you're done, there's coffee and it's fresh.

Just at that moment he heard the "ding" of the driveway bell. "Excuse me..."

New Rule of Social Media

In this day and age, when it comes to marketing messages, once is not enough.

Whether you are sending an email, leaving a voice message, tweeting or even meeting in person, one effort is not enough to get a prospect's attention AND trigger a response. In fact, the only time a single marketing effort fuels an immediate result is when the timing is absolutely perfect. Otherwise, you're lucky if your prospect even notices your first attempt to reach out.

There's a reason Fortune 500 companies advertise through numerous channels: billboards, television, radio, print, social media. To get on the radar of your desired prospects, and keep yourself there, you must repeat yourself. That's right. You must repeat yourself.

Here are three tips for exactly how that will yield results:
  1. Chirp, chirp and chirp again.
  2. Three is the new one.
  3. Integrate your tools.

Webinar: The Power of Email Marketing

Last month I was asked to present a webinar to writers on the importance and power of email marketing. I covered topics such as:
  • Why you need an e-newsletter
  • What is Email Marketing?
  • How Email Marketing fits in with your marketing plan (i.e., your website, social media, etc.)
  • Using metrics to increase your success
  • Tips on growing your mailing list.
And, as part of the webinar, I did an actual (albeit quick) walk-through of creating an e-newsletter in Constant Contact and the last 30" or so is Q&A.

Although this webinar was aimed at clients of Tom Bird, facilitator of "Write Your Best Seller in a Weekend" retreats, most of the information shared is applicable to all businesses and organizations seeking to build strong relationships through their marketing efforts.

The webinar was recorded and you can watch it by clicking on the image below.

Unlike the last release, the new update is pretty big. The moment you log in to WordPress 3.8 you'll see the change. The WP Admin area has undergone a complete makeover.

Read all about it at WordPress.org and watch this brief, well done video by WP Apprentice.

bottomgodwordJoyce "came to believe" in a Higher Power about 23 years ago. Thanks to hearing the novel idea that one could choose their own concept of God - and name too - and the workings of synchronicity, Joyce embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others. Since that time of commencing her conscious spiritual journey, she has endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom she meets, and all that she does - including working with others and their computer projects!
