Greetings!

I trust you had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday and are resting up a bit before plunging full blast into the holiday season.

Celebrating Thanksgiving as an adult has always been different each year for me. This has mainly been due to my being single until about 50, with very little family. One year standing in the cold at the Macy's parade in NYC with friends... another year flying early Thanksgiving morning from Taos, NM to Dallas, TX to be with a dear friend and her family... and, still another year, hosting a dinner for five women friends my first year living in Gilbert, AZ. It has been a holiday marked by little if no traditions or consistency, something that I pined for. Until recent years.

Since Thanksgiving 2004 there has been one consistency, a person, Roger Wyer, my beloved. Yes, this was our 9th holiday together. We've celebrated it differently each year, but always together - surely some kind of record for me!

This year we hosted a dinner at our cozy home in Sedona, AZ. We were joined in celebration and gratitude with dear friends and Rog's mom, and enjoyed meaningful conversation mostly around spirituality and great food, of course.

And, I played a song that I consider my special Thanksgiving prayer (although it is relevant every day). I was delighted that our guests resonated with it and appreciated it as I do. "May the Light of Love," by David Roth, is upbeat and folksy, and the lyrics are precious and pretty much say it all for me. Here's the opening verse:

As we come around to take our places at the table
A moment to remember and reflect upon our wealth
Here's to loving friends and family, here's to being able
To gather here together in good company and health.

You can read the rest of the verses in one of my "You, Me, and Spirit" blog posts. Your comments are most welcomed!

Blessings,

Spiritual/Personal
"I'm Right Over Here!"
Here's a childhood story from Norman Vincent Peale with some poignant wisdom and guidance.

Mirror maze When my brother Bob and I were small boys growing up in Ohio, our father used to take us sometimes to an amusement park where one of the attractions was a maze, a labyrinth of artfully planned mirrors in which it was possible to get completely lost. Wherever you looked, whichever passage you chose, you ended by running into a reflection of yourself.

Being a minister, my father couldn't resist pointing out a moral. "This maze," he would say, "is just like life. No matter where you go, you can't escape from yourself. So you had better try to be a worthwhile person, because you'll never get away from that person no matter what you do!"

That was a valid lesson, and I remember it still. But what I remember best is the very first time we entered the maze and I somehow got separated from Bob and my father. Becoming more and more panicky, I finally...

Anonymous Email... Really?
Email Considering the news lately, I thought I'd address this issue.

It's easy to hide your email address:
  1. Create a new email account at one of the free email services like Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo!
  2. Set it up using completely fake information: name, location, birthday, etc. ... Make sure there's absolutely nothing about the account that is in any way tied to you.
  3. Use that account to send your message.
It's simple.

But... there's more to trying to remain anonymous than just setting up and using a phony email account.

A person can be located by the IP address of the computer from which the email was sent. To learn more, read Leo Notenboom's recent post.

Websites and Coffee Update
WordPress coffee mug Rog and I have been reworking our offerings to provide more flexibility to our Websites and Coffee clients. Many thanks for providing feedback so that we could improve how we are of service.

We've added two follow-up workshops to "Intro to WordPress: First Steps" to help keep new learning growing. There's now an "Intro to WordPress: Part Two," where we work more extensively in our WordPress lab to uncover and try out another layer of tools.  And, in "What's Next?," we guide you through considering each step in the process to develop and control your own WordPress website.

We're also adding a series of hands-on labs to focus on key elements of developing a website: images, content, architecture, SEO, and plugins. We'll schedule one or two of these a week so people can come when they need support in a particular area.

We've been busy as beavers, developing content for the new sessions, adding posts, scheduling December and updating our registration, updating existing pages, and re-orienting our website to feature the improvements.

We look forward to having you join us on the road to creating and controlling your own WordPress website.

Even in my years as a devout atheist, I celebrated Christmas. For me it was about celebrating the love of friends and the joy of being together. But one year early on my new spiritual journey, I consciously chose a quiet, peaceful holiday season - I didn't even decorate my NYC apartment, a real shocker, believe me. I simply wanted to rest in the healing aspect that I had found in the meaning of Christmas.

So I spent Christmas Day in quiet meditation and contemplation and ate a simple, healthy meal alone at my table adorned with candles and flowers. It was a unique experience, and a far cry from what had been the usual hustle and bustle of the holiday. The next year found me busy all season long, filled with company parties, holiday shopping and gift wrapping, concerts, gathering with friends, and, of course, decorating my apartment and tree, complete with my Lionel steam engine.

However you choose to spend the holiday season, may you feel love, peace, and joy in your heart.

Christmas holly Yours in Spirit,

bottomgodwordJoyce "came to believe" in a Higher Power about 22 years ago.  Thanks to hearing the novel idea that one could choose their own concept of God, and the workings of synchronicity, Joyce embarked on a new way of thinking, a new way of living, a new way of being in the world and with others.  Since that time of commencing her conscious spiritual journey, she has endeavored to remember The Presence in all that is, all whom she meets, and all that she does - including working with others and their computer projects!
