Legislation Affecting Engineers
Transportation Funding
Discussions continue in the legislature to find a long-term solution to properly fund repairs for Michigan's transportation system. Shifting the 6% sales tax revenues on gasoline to the transportation fund while implementing a 1% increase in the general sales tax to replace the revenue for schools and local governments seem to be the preferred solution at this time.
Affidavit of Merit (SB 309)

SB 309 received a hearing by the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 30. The majority of testimony was in support of the bill. Ron Brenke, ACEC Executive Director, and attorney Craig Thompson testified in support of the bill. Ben Tiseo testified in support on behalf of AIA. The bill seeks to prevent the filing of frivolous lawsuits against design professionals by requiring the plantiff to file an affidavit of merit signed by a licensed design professional.
