If you or someone you know would like to donate these items, call us at 503.413.5541.

Thank you for your support!
Greetings!
The 3rd Annual Bridges to Health Care event was a great success. About 400 people - our highest attendance to date - helped us raise $43,000. We are so very grateful to all who supported us financially through your donations. This money will go directly to support Project Access NOW's mission to continue to connect our low-income, uninsured neighbors to donated health care.

People enjoyed the musical sounds of Los Gallos Rumba, selected bottles from the wall of wine, or purchased raffle tickets to win a "Year of Dates," or a week in Puerto Vallarta, including airfare, or a week's stay in a Wallowa Lake cabin. Many of our guests visited our various slide slow presentations during the reception and got the chance to speak with some of the awesome staff from Project Access NOW and several of our our partner clinics. And, of course, many people raised their paddles high to show their support. Our thanks, again, to Providence Health & Services for starting things off with a $5,000 paddle raise in honor of National Doctors Day - the largest of the evening.

Bridges to Health Care 2012 Paddle Raise

If you attended Bridges to Health Care and have not yet taken our post-event survey, we would appreciate your feedback. The survey takes just a few minutes to complete and can be found here.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

Linda Nilsen-Solares

Paul's story
When the company Paul worked for closed in 2008 and let everyone go, he tried to hang on to his health insurance through COBRA while he looked for another job. But since the company no longer existed, the health plan soon went away and Paul was left with no insurance.

A short while later, Paul began to notice some abnormal bleeding and he knew something was wrong. He went to the NARA Indian Health Clinic for help. An examination confirmed that Paul needed attention right away.

The clinic referred Paul to Project Access NOW, where he was quickly connected to Dr. Daniel Herzig of OHSU. Dr. Herzig ordered a series of diagnostic tests, including a colonoscopy, CT scan, PET scan, MRI and blood tests. The diagnosis: Paul had an aggressive form of small cell cancer that was hereditary and he would need much in the way of treatment to combat it.
Thanking Dr. Herzig
Dr. Daniel HerzigAs part of the OHSU Digestive Health Center and the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Dr. Daniel Herzig specializes in the surgical treatment of colon and rectal diseases, both cancerous and noncancerous. He gladly volunteers his services to treat people referred to him through Project Access NOW.

Dr. Herzig appreciates having the vast network of providers who participate in Project Access NOW to call upon.

Thanks to These In-Kind Donors
We were able to offer such wonderful raffle prizes and wine for the wall of wine at the Bridges to Health Care event, thanks to the generosity of several area businesses and individuals. Please help us show our gratitude by thanking them and/or visiting their establishments.
Extra special thanks to Judge & Sally Hicks and Marie & David Dahlstrom for the incredible generosity in sharing their resources. Thanks also to the following individuals who donated to the wall of wine - all of our board members, as well as Janet Hamilton, Trevor Hay, and Debbie Rieke.

Community volunteer highlight: Shannon Kelley
Shannon KelleyShannon Kelley learned about Project Access NOW through her former co-worker, Janet Hamilton, when Janet started volunteering several years ago, before being hired as Project Access NOW's Director of Operations. New staff profile: Sophia Betancourt
Sophia BetancourtAfter moving to Portland from San Diego, Sophia Betancourt really wanted to find a job in community outreach. She had been a pharmacy technician for six years before returning to school to study Health Information Technology. When she ran across an ad for a job opening with Project Access NOW, she had a good feeling that it would fit in well with her goals.

Now, as a Care Coordination Specialist, Sophia works directly with clients, other care coordinators, referring clinics, volunteer clinics, hospitals, and participating pharmacies to help Project Access NOW clients get the care and medications they need.
