Wish List
As any organization, in addition to funds we have in-kind needs for items to help us better serve the low-income uninsured. Here's our list for November:

- Headsets (Avaya compatible)

- Laptop computers

If you or someone you know would like to donate these items, call us at 503.413.5541.

Thank you for your support!
Greetings!
We have much to be thankful for!

Our first-ever Expressions Event was a huge success. The already lovely atrium at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center was transformed into a showplace for beautiful art and wonderful music. Here's a bird's eye view of the crowd enjoying themselves.

We raised over $23,000 that evening and, by all accounts, everyone had a great time. We'd like to thank the following event volunteers and staff members for their hard work in bringing this new event to life: Vicki Cameron, Michael Conway, Elgin Dean, Holly Flores, Judge Hicks, Sally Hicks, Priya Keane, Shannon Kelley, Glen Larson, Carole Long, Kathi Misner, Richard Reamer, Debbie Rieke, and Rebecca Welti,

See below for a list of event sponsors and contributing artists.  Many others donated goods and services to our silent auction. We want to ensure all get recognized. We will break the list of acknowledgments into two parts and will conclude our thank you's in our next E-Newsletter.

The very next day following the Expressions Event, Project Access NOW was honored at the Annual Providence All Saints Day Breakfast. In particular, the four physicians pictured below: Dr. Mal McAninch, Dr. Mark Rosenberg, Dr. Jill Ginsberg, and Dr. Mike Bonazzola, each received the St. Luke's Healing Arts award as they were recognized for the contributions they made in working from the planning stages of setting up Project Access NOW to be a system that has flexibility, quality and standards to assure meaningful, sustainable service. They have been and still are instrumental to our success and we are so fortunate to be able to count them among "Our Saints."

And, finally, we are so excited to be a part of the Willamette Week Give!Guide Campaign this year. We mentioned this in a recent email, but it bears repeating. It's an honor to do this work and to be recognized alongside the 110 organizations featured in this year's guide. We have some great events and "thank-you's" lined up. Remember to check the Upcoming Events section at left, follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and watch for more news in the coming weeks.

Today, Thursday, November 15th, anyone who makes a donation through the Give!Guide of $10 or more will have the chance to win a Salt and Straw ice cream party for up to 200 people.

The first $1,500 of donations to Project Access NOW will be matched by our Board of Directors, meaning your donation will go twice as far. And, starting this weekend and lasting throughout the duration of the Give!Guide, anyone who makes a donation of $25 or more to Project Access NOW through the Guide receives a coupon for $5 off a purchase at participating food carts from Cartlandia. (while supplies last) Thank you to Cartlandia for the very generous offer.

Please consider making a donation to Project Access NOW through the Give!Guide. One of the great things about the Give!Guide is that you can give to more than one organization conveniently.  As a matter of fact, three of our partner clinics are also in the Give!Guide:  North by Northeast Community Health Center, Wallace Medical Concern and Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center.  Improving the health of our community is something that no one organization can do alone and we encourage you to consider supporting many great "Community Profits" during this end of year giving season.

With gratitude,

Linda Nilsen-Solares
Executive Director

Darwin's Story
Darwin F. Darwin has been diabetic for several years, but the disease had progressed to the point where he needed insulin every day. After he lost his job as a long-haul truck driver in 2009, Darwin continued his health insurance through COBRA until it ran out.

When he started having trouble with his foot, as a complication from the diabetes, Darwin went to the Essential Health Clinic and was told he needed a primary care provider to manage his chronic condition and medications on an ongoing basis. Darwin was referred to Project Access NOW, who connected him to Dr. Roger Reynolds for his primary care. He was also connected Dr. Joyce Jenkins, of the Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic, for treatment of his foot and, because he was having eye trouble as a result of the diabetes, he was also connected to Dr. Timothy Gard at the Hillsboro Eye Clinic

Thanking Hillsboro Eye Clinic

Hillsboro Eye Clinic logo The providers at Hillsboro Eye Clinic have participated in Project Access NOW since the program began in 2008, providing exams, treatments, and procedures to several dozen patients a year. Project Access NOW coordinates access to medications and ancillary services, making the process of donating care a seamless one for the providers volunteering their time and services.

Dr. Timothy Gard, says, "Project Access NOW has provided a more coordinated approach to helping patients with significant hardships find the medical care they need and patients are very appreciative of the care they receive."

 Staff Profile: Alex Yve Rabar

Alex Rabar Alex Yve Rabar has worked in the health care field for a number of years. He was a laboratory assistant for a private Internal Medicine practice and, later, worked in the patient accounts department at Providence Seaside Hospital. When he saw the job posting for a Bilingual Care Coordination Specialist with Project Access NOW, he applied, hoping for an opportunity to utilize his Spanish speaking skills more frequently while working in a position that provides help to those in need.

In his role on the Care Coordination team, Alex does speak Spanish daily, in addition to English, as he delivers information to clients and helps them with program applications, scheduling medical appointments and interpreters, resolving billing issues and assisting clients with obtaining medications through Pharmacy Bridge.

Board Member Profile: Brant Norquist

Brant Norquist first learned about Project Access NOW through a colleague at Stoel Rives LLP, where he is an attorney. Brant heard Project Access NOW was looking for an attorney to volunteer with the organization, and he offered to help.

Brant identifies with the mission of Project Access NOW. His wife is a nurse at a surgery center in Southeast Portland, and he believes each of us has a responsibility to help people in need. When it comes to health care, he sees an opportunity to help those in need in a big way. He says, "A person's health is a critical part of his or her enjoyment of life.
