POLICY ALERT

CALL TO ACTION

The National Low-Income Housing Coalition now has over 800 organizations signed onto the letter to House and Senate Appropriations Committees urging them to increase funding for the Departments of Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in FY14.

NLIHC needs 900 additional signers to exceed the number of signers from last year.

The Network endorses this letter and asks all community land trusts, permanently affordable housing programs, and Network members to sign it by April 30.

Please sign your organization on here: https://nlihc.wufoo.com/forms/sign-on-increase-thud-funding/

After you sign on, please send a message to organizations in your local networks, urging them to sign on as well.

As background, House and Senate Appropriations Committees will soon decide how much FY14 funding each appropriations subcommittee will receive, including funding for the THUD subcommittee. This funding allocation for subcommittees, called the 302(b), will determine how much funding is available for HUD and DOT programs in FY14.

The FY13 THUD 302(b) allocation was 24% below the FY10 enacted level, even before sequestration. We are told by Congressional staff that the letter sent by advocates in FY13 made a positive impact on the amount of funding available to these departments, despite the nation's current fiscal challenges.

You can view a PDF of the letter here.

The deadline to sign the letter is April 30.

Sincerely,
