Radon increases the risk of lung cancer and the best time to check for radon is during cold weather when windows and doors remain closed. 
Test kits are available through the County Health Department for $10.  The cost includes return postage, laboratory analysis and interpretation by Health Department staff.  To purchase a kit, call 847-377-8030  or visit the Health Department online.
The Rotary Club of Long Grove, Kildeer, Hawthorn Woods is sponsoring a Pet Food / Pet Supplies drive from January 1st, 2016 to February 15th, 2016.

The event benefits two local pet charities, Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center in Palatine, and Foster 2 Home in Arlington Heights.  

Drop off pet food and pet supplies at the following locations:
  • Village of Kildeer, Village Hall
  • Jewel, Lake Zurich (Ela Road)
  • Jewel, Lake Zurich (Rt. 12 and Rt. 22) 

In case you have not heard, the Secretary of State will no longer mail you a license plate renewal notice. You can, however, ask for electronic notification and opt to renew license plates online.  Click here to learn more.


During the first two weeks in January your gently-used Christmas tree will be taken away by Waste Management as part of its regular service.
