| DO I NEED A BUILDING PERMIT FOR THAT?
It's never too early to apply for a permit for your warm weather home improvement project. A permit from the Village helps ensure safe construction and protects home value.   A list of the common projects that require a permit are listed below. If your project is not on the list or if you have a question, please call Village Hall at 847-438-6000 and ask to speak with Andrea, the Village's Director of Building Permits.   Residential Projects that Require a Permit Air Conditioning (new or replacement)AdditionsDeckDemolitions (structural and interior)Driveway (replacement , resurface and/or expansion)Electrical (panel changes, service upgrades, new receptacles and switches) Fire Pits (permanent)FireplaceFurnace (including garage) Garages Gazebos and Yard StructuresGeneratorsGrading/re-grading/drainageLawn IrrigationPatios (new or repair)Plumbing Porches, Stoops, Landings & StairsRemodeling (kitchen, bath, basement, etc.)Retaining Walls RoofingSewer/Water Disconnection and Upgrade Sheds - longer than 6 feet or larger than 18 square feetSidewalks & Service WalksSiding (new or repair), Soffit and FasciaSwimming Pools/Spas/Hot Tubs/FencesTents (with a temporary use)Water FeaturesWater HeaterWindows and DoorsWork in the Public Right-of-Way
