DO I NEED A BUILDING PERMIT FOR THAT?
 It's never too early to apply for a permit for your warm weather home improvement project. A permit from the Village helps ensure safe construction and protects home value.
A list of the common projects that require a permit are listed below. If your project is not on the list or if you have a question, please call Village Hall at 847-438-6000 and ask to speak with Andrea, the Village's Director of Building Permits.
Residential Projects that Require a Permit
- Air Conditioning (new or replacement)
- Additions
- Deck
- Demolitions (structural and interior)
- Driveway (replacement , resurface and/or expansion)
- Electrical (panel changes, service upgrades, new receptacles and switches)
- Fire Pits (permanent)
- Fireplace
- Furnace (including garage)
- Garages
- Gazebos and Yard Structures
- Generators
- Grading/re-grading/drainage
- Lawn Irrigation
- Patios (new or repair)
- Plumbing
- Porches, Stoops, Landings & Stairs
- Remodeling (kitchen, bath, basement, etc.)
- Retaining Walls
- Roofing
- Sewer/Water Disconnection and Upgrade
- Sheds - longer than 6 feet or larger than 18 square feet
- Sidewalks & Service Walks
- Siding (new or repair), Soffit and Fascia
- Swimming Pools/Spas/Hot Tubs/Fences
