How is it possible to be THANKFUL when we are surrounded by so much unrest? As a pastor, there are so many things I want to say to the people of this city I love. But to my own church family, I give this counsel from God's Word that has so much more power than my opinions.

Colossians 3:1-ff  Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is...Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ...Put to death, whatever belongs to your earthly nature... Rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. ...As God's chosen people, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.... And be thankful.

It may always be the case in life that we allow immediate concerns to distract us from the eternal. We are not to put our "heads in the sand" and ignore the turmoil around us, but we must choose how we begin each day and our Thanksgiving day. Do we set our thoughts on TV news and Facebook social drama, or do we set our thoughts on things above, asking God to set the agenda for our life?

I invite you to our Thanksgiving Eve worship service tonight at 7 pm. Kyle and our worship team will lead us in worship. Jason Kinder will share the message Thankful4 the Promises of God. Anything given during offering will be passed along to families in our church who have needs. There will also be a special time of prayer. And we WILL be thankful.

PRAYING for my city. Setting my heart on things above. THANKFUL for the One who can bring us peace.

Starting Point Welcome Seminar

Wednesday, December 3, 6:00-8:00 pm

Starting Point We would like every guest of First Christian to experience Starting Point. It's a welcome seminar led by Steve Wingfield that gives an overview of our church and a personal challenge to take your next step of faith. You'll enjoy a great meal, meet some ministry staff, and take a quick "backstage" tour. Most importantly, we'll meet in a smaller setting where you can hear and respond to God's invitation for your life. Dinner and childcare are provided with an online RSVP.
