Here is what happened week 6:
Circus, Circus!
|
Dear Camp Families,
Even with one day of rain, Circus Circus Week was a packed week full with super activities and events:
The Aladdins enjoyed their buried treasure hunt around camp during their Aladdin Pirate Adventure, we had a surprisingly funny Wacky Hair Dress Up Day, some of our staff performed in our annual Staff Show and it all wrapped up with the Splashtacular Pool Party.
This week is Color War 2013! Good Luck Campers and Staff. Stay tuned for the highlights.
Regards,
Celebrating 60 Funtastic Years
1954-2013
The 2014 Kick-Off: 61st Year Camp Anniversary
Last week all our camp families received the 2014 Early Enrollment Incentive Program. This is the time to lock in the early rate and at the same time guarantee the ideal bunk placement for your child(ren) with friends. Simply complete the ENROLLMENT FORM and send it along with a $300 deposit (check or credit card) by the last day of the season on August 16, 2013.
You have our assurance that all deposits are 100% guaranteed refundable (the only camp that provides this) until May 1, 2014. So you do not have to worry at all as to how many weeks you choose, since any program can be changed without penalty. The reserved space in the bunk is what's important.
We thank you for the trust you have in us as well as a sincere appreciation for the business.

We had a fantastic finish at Diamond Ridge. After Rockwood claimed three victories in Week 4, Diamond Ridge fought back furiously to tie with Rockwood 3 to 3. Both sides needed one final win to come out on top. Finally, after a close match, Rockwood's hockey team emerged victorious!

Genies and Aladdins
Week Six

All I can say is WOW! It has been a whirlwind of activities for the Genie and Aladdin campers this week. In addition to their already fun-filled schedules, the Aladdins enjoyed our annual Aladdin Pirate Adventure. This year's Aladdins learned the Sesame Rockwood pirate legend when pirates sailed in on Turtle Lake. Campers were delighted to witness Blackbeard's visit and were eager to find the treasure he spoke of! Each bunk then traveled around camp with a treasure map in hand finding clues along the trail. At last the hidden treasure was discovered in a far off part of camp! The jewels were shared and a feast of Pirate's Booty and Popsicles was enjoyed by all. Arrrr thanks to Travis from the Camp's Arts Staff for being our most realistic pirate and to our Program Staff, Shawn, Brittany and Ian, for an afternoon of so much fun and merriment!
This week also featured bunk plaque presentations. Our staff painted themed plaques that were presented to Uncle Howard and Aunt Dale featuring the names of campers and staff in each bunk. These plaques are being hung in the bunks for the campers to enjoy now and to visit in years to come!

Sultans
Week Six
Week 6, 'Circus, Circus,' brought lots of fun. Wednesday was Wacky Hair Day when we saw some very crazy styles. Thursday was our annual bunk plaque presentation. The campers love to see their bunk plaque that the counselors worked so diligently on to commemorate their summer as Sultans. These plaques hang in the cabins and the campers enjoy coming back and looking at them as they move to older divisions. The week ended with our staff show. The campers love seeing the specialists and some of the counselors performing.
We also say goodbye to a few of our Sultan friends who are ending their summer with us. We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer, have a great year in school and look forward to seeing you back at Sesame Rockwood Camps next year.
Week 7 is Color War WEEK! I wonder what surprises await us?

Sinbads
Week Six
Its amazing how fast time flies when we're having fun! The Sinbads have been busy at camp lately enjoying all of our activities from Sports to Arts to the Pool. Thanks to our talented swim instructors, many of us have moved up levels and perfected some awesome swim techniques. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to stay late for our Sinbad Supper Club! What a night! We got to swim, dine and watch a show with all our best Sinbad friends. With all of this week's wacky hair-dos and silly outfits, Circus, Circus Week sure has made camp the Greatest Show on Earth!
These next couple weeks are guaranteed to be top notch with Color Wars on the horizon. We're all getting in the spirit. Ready to play hard and show our teamwork and sportsmanship. Sinbad Secret Society signing out. Shhhhhhhh.

Benjamin Anderson - Sinbad Director

Come One, Come All, to the greatest week on Earth! We clowned around during Week 6 through many adventures. Rockwood brought back the RockRidge Cup! WE WON! The Juniors had a swinging time during our mini golf trip at Freddy Hill Farms!
The Rockwood campers got wacked for our "Wacky Hair Dress-Up-Day!" Check out our wacky pictures on Facebook. Our week continued with campers requesting to be "mini" directors and a few friends were chosen to take part in Camper Director Day! We started decorating our cabins with Rockwood colors (red and white) to show our camp spirit! We want to take this opportunity to say good bye to our 6 week campers and we hope to see you next year!!

CITs/Interns
Week six
This week the CITs and Interns helped decorate for Circus, Circus Week. We created posters and helped to put up decorations around camp. We have been continuing to work on our beautiful SRC recycling bins and hope to have them placed around camp by next week! We had fun playing hot potato with water balloons and on our trip to Freddy Hill Farms! We golfed and ate some delicious ice cream!
Our CIT's and Interns who will be entering 9th grade this September are eligible to be hired for the 2014 Camp Season. Please contact the camp office in October for an Employment Application.

Rockwood Adventures Teen Travel
The Rockwood Adventures Teen Travel campers and staff had a great finish to the 10-day trip! Last Monday we visited Jelly Belly in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin followed by a great, sunny afternoon at North Beach in Racine on the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. Tuesday took us back into Chicago for a tour of the historic Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears football team. What a moving location dedicated to all of the service men and women who have served our
country. It was amazing to see how they tore down the former stadium, while leaving the entire outside with the majestic pillars in place and built the new, modern stadium inside!
We were then back in Ohio to spend the day and evening at the fabulous Cedar Point Amusement Park located on a peninsula in Lake Erie. So many coasters and so little time! Top Thrill Dragster, Gatekeeper, Millennium Force and Maverick were the top hits!
Session 4 starts today and the teens will explore Boston, go on a whale watch, see the Blue Man Group, spend a day on Martha's Vineyard and hit the rides at Six Flags Amusement Park and Hurricane Harbor Waterpark. We'll end our trip with a stop at the Rockland Bakery. Sooooo much fun ahead!
Cricket Snearing, Teen Travel Director

Nature and Mad Science
Week 6
This week in Nature we learned about reptiles and amphibians. Genies traveled back in time to learn about dinosaurs. They participated in a Dino-dig and discovered fossils like T-Rex teeth and horns. Aladdins and Sultans focused on amphibians and went on frog and salamander hunts. Ask them what it means for animals to be amphibians!
In Mad Science, the Sinbads learned about germs and conducted experiments to see how fast they spread and how important it is for us to wash our hands. Freshmen and Sophomores continued with part two of polymer week and made SLIME! This is a favorite experiment in Mad Science.

Our WonderKey School is a fully accredited pre-school for children 2 through 5 years of age, where wonderful learning takes place. In a warm and nurturing environment, our young students benefit from excellent early learning experiences. The best part is that all of this takes place right here at camp where we can take full advantage of all that camp has to offer. Most members of WonderKey faculty are familiar camp faces; we even get to see Uncle Howard and Aunt Dale throughout the school year! Our school participates in the Keystone Stars as a childcare provider. We exceed State Health & Safety licensing requirements.
If you would like more information or a tour of the WonderKey School, please contact our School Director Fern Helfer (Camp's Genie Director) at (610) 279-8711. Our website can be a great resource too!
The WonderKey School, now enrolling for Fall 2013, is licensed by the State of Pennsylvania of Private Academic Schools and the Department of Public Welfare and is a member of the Keystone STARS child care provider.
