Dear ASHI Member,
The Coordinating Council for the Clinical Laboratory Workforce (CCCLW), a coalition of more than a dozen laboratory organizations, including ASHI, determined that its ability to attract a growing and highly-qualified workforce is being adversely impacted by the profession's lack of visibility and by an almost singular focus on reducing laboratory costs.
To reverse this situation will require a clear understanding of the value of the laboratory and laboratory professional, as well as the consequences to patients and the healthcare system when the laboratory is not optimally resourced. CCCLW committed to meeting this need by identifying measures of value that laboratory professionals add (or can add) to the system (separately, and in addition to the value of the utilized analytes). Those measures are anticipated to address the twin needs of operational efficiency and clinical effectiveness. A taskforce was created to drive this effort.
The taskforce will deliver a framework and proposed measures that will be available for pilot testing in 2016. To ensure development of the most robust set of measures, we need your help. We believe that across our profession, departments are demonstrating value in innovative ways. We want to learn what you are doing. Therefore, we ask that the leadership team of your department take 15-20 minutes before January 28th to complete this survey. Thank you in advance for your help on this important task that will benefit our profession.
Signed by organization leadership or CCCLW representative
