June 2015 - In This Issue:
Congrats to the Latest Texas Statewide Homebuyer Education Program Training Participants

TSAHC would like to congratulate the housing counselors who successfully completed the Texas Statewide Homebuyer Education Program June 1st - 3rd in San Antonio. These 28 housing counselors representing 20 organizations in 11 cities across Texas finished the "HO370- Advanced Financial Coaching - Taking Your Practice to the Next Level" class. We're proud to announce that 100% of the counselors would recommend this training to others.

TSAHC has partnered with NeighborWorks America to provide these courses. For more information about the courses offered and the different certifications provided by NeighborWorks, including requirements to obtain or maintain a certification and the application form for each, click here.

Thank you to the following sponsors for making this training possible and providing scholarships for 15 of the attendees.

If you're interested in attending a future Texas Statewide Homebuyer Education Program, we're offering one more training this year.

Attend the "Las Colonias in the 21st Century: Progress Along the Texas-Mexico Border" Conference

Join the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas for Las Colonias in the 21st Century: Progress Along the Texas-Mexico Border on July 30-31 in McAllen, Texas. This event will highlight the Dallas Fed's 2015 report of the same name, which presents a comprehensive profile of Texas colonias. Together, these colonias represent one of the largest concentrations of poverty in the U.S.

The conference will highlight the efforts of community organizers, residents, elected officials, nonprofits and government agencies to improve infrastructure, housing, economic opportunity, education and health in these regions. Local, regional and national experts will present effective models for raising living standards and strengthening local economies in colonias, as well as other underserved communities. See the full agenda via the Dallas Fed's website.

Register by July 22.

June is National Homeownership Month, and to celebrate, TSAHC published a special series in our On The House Blog.  Each Monday, we shared the story of a family or individual who used our programs to purchase a home. Below are excerpts from those stories.

We invite you to drop by On The House each week as we share information on important housing issues, provide an inside look into our programs, and share other valuable resources. Click here to sign up to receive the blog each week.

Home Buyer Blog Series

June 1: Meet Ann and Doug Foxworth

To kick off our home buyer blog series, TSAHC created a short video to share the story of Ann and Doug Foxworth. The Foxworths are a retired couple who also happen to be visually impaired.  They were living in a rental home, but they were forced to move because their landlord wanted to sell the home. TSAHC's home buyer programs helped them purchase a home that meets their needs in a quiet, well established neighborhood in north Austin.

June 8: Meet Momi Silva

Momi Silva lives in El Paso with her husband and two stepsons.  TSAHC's home buyer programs helped her accomplish the dream of homeownership.  We asked Momi a few questions about her home buying experience and what it means to be a first time homeowner.

June 15: Meet Mindy Burrow

Mindy Burrow never envisioned being a homeowner until her deteriorating apartment forced her to explore other options. Mindy discovered TSAHC's home buyer programs and used them to help her purchase a home of her own in Amarillo.

June 22: Meet Ellie Moss

Ellie Moss recently purchased her first home in Longview. Ellie was kind enough to share her story on how TSAHC's programs helped the single mother purchase a home in a neighborhood close to her son's school.
