Uploading and Sending Photos Help

Greetings!

My apologies for being careless and sending the June email before final proofing.

Our HatHelp blog discusses hints on using a basic photo shop program and sizing a photo correctly for the venue on which it will be displayed. Our office manager, Melissa Fordeck, is the author. The creative person sometimes needs assistance with the technical aspects of the business and we will offer insight if we can. Send me your tech questions you would like explained.

A new treat for students attending our workshops is the gift of a notebook containing an outline and basic notes for the class. This is in addition to the 12% discount students receive on products purchased during the class. And the hatbox with our logo for carrying home your completed projects. All of this besides being taught by enthusiastic instructors. Think of it...making a hat at a workshop for less than the cost of a couture chapeau! While gaining fresh knowledge and skills in a friendly atmosphere.

The winner of our "From Gatsby to Gaga" Fascinator Contest was announced on Facebook recently. The hat with the most votes and the first and second runners-up are shown below in this newsletter along with brief bios about each. We enjoy the exposure this offers to participants and hearing that posting their hat helped sell it to an admiring hat lover. To be the first to know when a contest is being offered, "like" us on our Facebook page.

HatHelp - How to Resize a Photo?

Countless times I've received emails with photos that don't open, are sideways, upside down or out of proportion and I'm sure I'm not the only one.  Although it isn't a world ending issue, it is sometimes inconvenient and other times down right irritating.  Just to help us all send and receive a few less of these emails I decided to explain the basics about making a photo ready to send via email or upload to a website.

Most cameras these days take very large, detailed photos, which is great if you plan to print them for display.  However, many times the photos are taken specifically to view on a computer, upload to a website or email to someone.  In that case, the photos with 2048 x 1536 pixels or more are too large to send or upload leaving you asking, "How do I make it smaller?" and, "What size do I make it?"  If your camera didn't come with photo editing software there are several options available.  You may either purchase one of the many programs available, or choose a free photo editing software program.  I will be using a free program called...

Winners of From Gatsby to Gaga Fascinator Contest

Congratulations to our contest winner, Dyana Martin of Sacramento, California. I am a second generation Milliner, four generations removed. I took and interest in millinery from my living history interest and participation in events. I'm a self taught milliner and couture seamstress and my greatest joy is recreating beauty from the past head to toe. Many thanks to all who voted and I am greatly honored to be the winner. To see more of my work, please visit Dyana on Facebook .

Runner-up was Gigi Gaskins of Nashville, Tennesee. "I have a hat shop here in Nashville, hatWRKS. We carry an extensive selection of hats for both men and women as well as offering custom work and repairs. I work in both millinery techniques and traditional hattery. Nashville has been growing leaps and bounds the past few years. We see people of all ages and from all walks of life. I love being a part of the American hatting community! "

''A hat is not just a hat...a hat is the expression of a woman's soul'' Lily Dache

Graceful Butterfly Millinery evolved in 2009 through the metamorphosis of Chicago designer Sonia Caceres's creative path.  Her passion for collecting lovely items from another place in time ignited the creative flame that now burns sweetly within her artistic soul.  Each hat has a story to tell...a journey all it's own. Like a caterpillar coming out of it's cocoon...spreading it's wings for the first time...waiting for its graceful flight to begin...

Sonia designs one-of-a-kind couture hats  inspired by the flirty fashion of a roaring 20's Gatsby girl.  Each hat is created with new and vintage elements...Nouveau Vintage....new hats with vintage style and a life all their own.  Each hat is unique in it's design.  She offers custom work, as well as a ready-to-wear line of hats that she sells on Etsy.  Flutter by GracefulButterfly  to view her millinery work...

comments from you ...

Here are comments from shoppers and workshop participants.

"Love having a binder to hold all of the info from the workshops."
-- Anne (Fort Wayne, IN)

"Great work area, wonderful having supplies at my fingertips."
-- Donna (Reed City, MI)

"Some velour hoods I have purchased, not yours, are quite thin, hence, when shaping it's a worry that the fabric will give way, (and) sometimes they do. This is why I keep purchasing from you because you provide such good quality velour hoods, thank you."
-- Sharon
(Caboolture, AUS)

"I received my "Making Straw Hats" DVD and have already viewed it.  It is very helpful (but of course not as good as attending one of your classes!).  I wanted to re-block some old straw hats and this DVD helped me
figure out what I was doing wrong."
-- Helene (Kalamazoo, MI)
