Farm Fresh Rhode Island
is excited to launch
Harvest of the Month:
a local foods marketing & promotion campaign.

Each month (in season) we will promote a RI Grown vegetable &/or fruit.
We'll provide cafeterias with colorful posters, as well as
advice on where to source the featured items.

So far every RI public school district has signed up for Harvest of the Month. That means over 67,000 students will be enjoying RI Grown in their cafeterias! We want senior centers to get in on the action too. Simply register your cafeteria to join us.

For Senior Center Directors:

We want to work with you to promote Harvest of the Month in your center! We will visit your seniors to play games such as "Local Foods Trivia" or "Measure Your Miles" and "Seasonal Scramble". If you would rather have us put on a show, we'll do a cooking demo featuring RI Grown Harvest of the Month items. We have lots of options to choose from. We will help you advertise our visit as well as Harvest of the Month too. Just let us know if you want a flyer or a short article for your newsletter.
Want to put a picture of the Harvest of the Month artwork in your newsletters. Click on the image of the pepper poster above, then right click to copy it. Save it somewhere easy to find, then re-size so it fits where you want it. Check out our fun facts below to accompany the monthly announcement for Harvest of the Month in your newsletters.

HARVEST OF THE MONTH
FUN FACTS

PEPPERS

Bell peppers are a rich source of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants such as Vitamin C, carotene and lycopene. Red Bell peppers, the ripest and therefore the sweetest, contain Vitamins A & E too. Bell peppers can actually be eaten at any stage of ripeness, but flavor and nutrient content increases as they ripen.

Two of the most popular bell pepper varieties among Rhode Island School kids are grown right here in our state. Confreda Farms grows an orange and green varietiy called the "Suntan Pepper" and Pezza Farm grows a brownish-red variety called a "Chocolate Pepper". No wonder kids love them!
